The Weezer Thread

Seems mega cringe to talk about non-existent band managers and labels then. Are these 40+ year old dad rock locals?

Think 2008-2014 generic scene/metalcore bands and bands that give themselves nicknames like they're in Slipknot. Close enough though. Regardless the replies to Rivers' tweet seems like most people aren't amused.

Was going to order, but shipping is $14.

That was the same with OK Human and Van Weezer and made the indie version an easy choice. I was hoping they'd stop overcharging for shipping by now.

New song is very forgettable.

Agreed.

Man, this band really is the worse 😒

1994 - Blue album comes out, it's amazing, world set on fire.

1996 - Pinkerton comes out, even better, world hates it.

2001-2015 (Green album, Maladroit, Make Believe, Red Album, Raditude, Hurley, Death to False Metal, EWBAITE) 14 freaking years of no entire album being anywhere near Blue or Pinkerton.

2016 - White Album, surprisingly great, Grammy noms, fans renewed faith in God...

and then...just a year later...

2017 - Pacific Daydream 🙄

2019 - Black Album 😪

2019 - Teal Album 🤨

2021 - Van Weezer 🤔

2021 - OK Human 🤔

At this rate will be lucky to get another truly great Weezer album in 2026...when Rivers is fucking 55 years old

I don't see why Green should be lumped in with the rest of those, a solid top tier power pop album! Maladroit could also have been great but the production was a mess in the end.

They should just go back in to the vaults from 2000-2005 and release the original (unedited and not fucked with) songs they were working on before Green (Summer Songs 2K) and up to the original 5th Album demos before they decided to go with Make Believe. They gave away so many amazing demos during that time that either got neutered in the final release versions (Superstar, Dope Nose, Slob etc) or just got dropped altogether (The Organ Player, Modern Dukes, Private Message, Prodigy Lover, 367, Mansion of Cardboard ect) in place of far inferior songs. The 5th album demos that added a keyboard player to all tracks are particularly good.

The alternate history of albums 3, 4 & 5 - it could have been fucking amazing!

I've been listening to all the previous albums on streaming media this week at work in anticipation of this release (and the 3 to follow) and yeah, there are a few dud songs in there, but i'm glad he keeps punching out new music. To me it's better than nothing.  There are many other bands i've followed for 30-35 years or more that rarely put out music, or have stopped altogether.

I've pre-ordered.

And i think the new single sounds good. It sounds like Weezer. Which is exactly what i want.

I think Green is definitely debatable, it may depend which side of the Blue vs Pinkerton debate you're on as to how much merit Green has. For me, it's just not as much.

I whole-heartedly agree about the demos and the amount of material they either axed or completely embellished for no reason. Oh well, nothing that can be done now.

For me it goes Blue Album, Pinkerton, Greatest Hits. Weezer became a Greatest Hits band, imo.  😆

I feel like they take more of a "throw a buncha shit at the wall and see what sticks" approach to songwriting. Kind of like Green Day's trilogy, I really don't mind them releasing a lot of music. Not every song needs to be a huge hit to be enjoyable.

Although I did enjoy Green Album, Make Believe, and Hurley to varying extents. I'll admit that I really haven't listened to a full album after EWBAITE.

I prefer an album every year with maybe only one or two really good songs as opposed to the approach of 5 years in between every album, which could turn out with only one or two good songs anyway.
