MikeSantor
I was curious if anyone used anything like this on their record shelf to keep the records up? I'm curious if there was any complications to doing something like this? Any damage to jacket covers or the bottoms of the jacket? Here is what i'm looking at: http://www.amazon.com/STEELMASTER-Heavy-10-Inch-Bookends-241100004/dp/B00BQX0U96/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1453246921&sr=8-2&keywords=heavy+duty+bookends

ryantark
I received these as a gift. I used them on my only shelf not full of records. I carefully pull the records up to prevent damage.
MikeSantor
I like being able to flip through records, go through them, see them, etc. So for me, being able to only fill up each shelf to 75% capacity with a book end and being able to easily flip through each cubby hole is nice. But obviously not at the expense of damaging anything. That is where my thought process is going. VinylGyroid

If you want more space to flip through them, just leave a bigger space in the middle. MikeSantor
MikeSantor
Your right, its definatly still possible without bookeneds. Its just a combination of my ADD and aesthetics prefering the book ends better. If i cant find anyone that has had any negative experience with them, im going to at least give them a try. vinyl addict
One thing I used to do was melt a few beat up 45s into a "U" shape, with a flat bottom and those would hold all my 45s. I also used to bend a 12" LP into a 90* angle and use them for bookends. Just an idea.

monklover
put an extra large book against the bookends, then the records.... i had some records in milk-crates that were stored away for a few years... a couple of them were not quite full and a few of the records in those ones leaned, maybe even less than what's in that picture above, and they had some warp to them when I pulled them out last spring... keeping them straight and firmly supported is very important niblips
tj187
Before I got my expedit, I used to use something similar to these on the "open" side of a shelf for a temporary solution. Worked fine for me https://www.waresdirect.com/products/office-supply/universal/standard-metal-bookends45451?trackURL=froogle&udv=%7Bdevice%7D&mtyp=%7Bmatchtype%7D&nwrk=%7Bnetwork%7D&kw=%7Bkeyword%7D&gclid=Cj0KEQiA_fy0BRCwiLaQ5-iFgpwBEiQA884sObxf4qVQlWki5Vr9D8JeD7Rqx1C9ofCehrz97jVBK-IaAnug8P8HAQ

Dominic_
I use a brick. I put duct tape on the bottom to keep it from scratching my shelf. I set it up gently next to the records with the long side sitting against them. It isn't beautiful but it works.
