And they do 4 releases a month right (one per ‘genre’)? $22 a record isn’t bad at all, but like others said that much at once, and not knowing what’s coming out is what’s holding me back. I'm in my second consecutive full year subscription, but not sure I'll be back. I was a member at the very beginning and it was way less expensive, but the quality wasn't as high as it is now. My biggest beef is that very often the "essentials" or "classics" records I already have OG pressings of. Their retail and member pricing is really high IMO. If you don't like those, you can swap to one of the past ROTMs, but I'm not sure of the limits on what records are all available for swapping. This is the list of the "bonus records" that you can choose 8 of for signing up in the deal thingy. The FAQ says: "More titles will be added throughout the year as other sell out." I almost opted for Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca one month in a swap, but while that would eat up $43 in credits/value it's about $25 shipped in new condition on Discogs. Like all records some appreciate in value and others folks try, don't like, and sell. Just my two cents when it comes to selecting anything. I resigned for a year last fall when they offered the lower price and $150 in credit for a 1 year membership. It has been really frustrating as it isn’t the easiest to use the credit (I.e. they do not allow you to use your credit to get the sale price when they do the occasional sale. If you want the sale price, bring your cash, using credit means paying full price,) their non-album-of-the-month exclusives are very expensive (for example, The New Pornographers upcoming release is $21-23 for the indie variant everywhere, $38 for the MEMBER rate for the VMP exclusive) and the selections to swap to are getting more narrow into the VMP leftovers from years past. Sort of - there is a window for swapping that month's record before the selection is locked, and you can see on the site all the other records they've made available to choose from for that month. Anything in the store that is still up for pre-order is not available for swapping, and it's always a guessing game if/when certain store exclusives will be added to the swaps availability. You can also swap for store credit if there's nothing in the swap selections you want. I don't spend much time on Reddit, but there's a user who kindly highlights every month the 'best' records for swapping, since many of them are less expensive to just purchase separately.
