unknown pleasures
Apologies in advance for this being a little morbid, but I was genuinely curious what people plan to do with their records when they die. I tried my best to search past topics and there doesn't appear to be an existing thread about it. Do you plan to sell them off beforehand? Leave them to family in your will? Have them buried with you? Nothing at all? (I'm sure the vast majority of our records are going to end up posted on Craigslist, given away to some charity shop, thrown in a dumpster or sold off in some large, horribly underpriced lot to the nearest second-hand store regardless of what we'd like to have happen...) Nateisgame
I think about this all the time and still have no answer that'll make me happy. Tommy
Han Solo
Melt em down and make me a huge colourful coffin. Unfortunately they'll probably end up in boxes in one of my family members basements. Edited August 18, 2016 by Han Solo MCDELTAT
slinch
I hope I'll stop caring about records way before that, get rid of them, and use those funds for something more meaningful. teddy, Fridge Fox, aopps42 and 8 others
xen0m0rph
About year ago friend of mine died, his parents ask me to sell all his records because they didn't know the real prices and how to sell them outside of Russia.

nardes
I told my wife to log in to my discogs, see what she can make some good money off of and take herself on a nice trip. She deserves it after putting up with all my record buying bullshit #thehobby Mr Mojo, derby625, Vector53 and 6 others
ejc625
Going to leave a set of instructions to my wife om how to go about selling them if she ever needs the money or space. If I have kids, I'll probably leave just pass them along. Mr Mojo

AlexH.
My wife will probably leave them where they are until she has the time to deal with them or moves to a new place, then she'll keep a few that have sentimental value and haul the rest down to Agharta or Hymie's and take whatever trade-in value they'll give her. niblips
every once in a while our local thrift store gets a really good record collection in from someone who has died. It causes a frenzy with the regular thrift store record hunters. It also cause great joy for them to find rare items in with all the regular crap. I'd hate for my records and CDs to end up there if i died, but if that does happen at least it'll be making others happy. I would hope my wife would sell them for the best price she could get though...they cause her a lot of grief atm. lol
Bladewillisisdead
Gonna be some lit pop punk and soundtrack collections showing up in thrift stores in a few decades. I honestly don't care what happens to my collection. I'm never having children so there's no one to pass them down to and my girlfriend doesn't give a shit. I told my girlfriend to either sell them or throw them away. Maybe put up a YouTube video of her smashing EITS - How Strange, Innocence if anyone still cares about it by then. lampwick, burnalive and GhostTrail

throughbeingcruel
I'll leave them to my daughter with instructions on what's valuable and how to sell it if she really needs the money. My girlfriend has started to give a little bit of a shit about records and she obviously knows how much she means to me, so she won't just sell them off before making sure our daughter gets what she wants. In that case, any of them that you purchased from a flipper on eBay or Discogs should probably get the chair. kjkenney and lethalenforcer
somethingvinyl
I've instructed to son's mom to start everything for $5 on ebay and give it all to my son after expenses and she takes 25% for herself. I told her to not, without question, let any record people near them as they will lie, cheat, and steal to get them cheaply. innersleeve
This is ridiculous, I know, but I actually have it specified in my will not only that my records will go to the record store I worked at for 14 years, but which employee gets to price them. hzielaskowski
What is the biggest drama of a record collector? When his wife is selling the records for the price he told her he paid for them. If my wife will sell my test presses for few dollars I will die in hell. NorrisNuts and niblips
