Sorry, I heard "no fighting" so I said the worst thing I could think to say in a post rock thread.

Post rock is dope and I have listened to and forgot (lost 1TB of music about 4-5 years ago) about a ton of the bands listed. Now that this thread isn't a million pages long I'll probably follow it.

So, is this the thread where I can talk about the new Braveyoung record, and how to me it sounds an awful lot like someone watched a symphony orchestra warming up before a performance and thought "yeah, that was cool, but what if it had SOME DRONE SOUNDS" and I can't quite put my finger on why I like this record so much, but I do?

Listened to it again this morning.  I think I like it more every time through.

I personally think there's a bit more to it than your description – even if it was exaggerated for comedic effect – but yeah, it's pretty brilliant.  Super melancholic neoclassical angle they've worked with it.

Same here.  On both accounts.  Which is saying something since the first play resonated with me pretty well.

I mean, yeah, I was being a tad hyperbolic. It does have a kind of unfocused symphonic feel to it at times though.

I've only listened to it maybe five or six times, but I really do enjoy it. It fills that "something for me to listen to while I try to write" niche perfectly. Still like "Bloom" the best out of their discography though.

I saw Explosions a few weeks ago for the first time.  It was cool, but the fans were the worst.  Everyone was drunk and yelling at (talking to)  each other the entire time.

That's really unfortunate. I haven't seen EITS, but I've had similar experiences with other "post-rock" or instrumental bands. I've noticed that it depends a lot on the city I'm in. Although Austin is known for its great "scene", going to shows like that there is much like you described above. I can only assume it's due to the hipster party nature of the town or people who are just going for the "cred". I live near Houston and crowds are always quiet and respectful here. Like to the point of being eerie sometimes. I've always thought of it being because people here are actually there to see the band perform. It's niche, and Houston is not known for it's music scene, so only the niche fans come. The direct comparison I can make is with This Will Destroy You. I saw them in Houston and the crowd was into it, but totally silent and respectful. Saw them a few months later in Austin and there were people talking/yelling throughout and much more cheering/reaction during the music. Just a completely different vibe. Weird that it's not even a 3 hour trip between Austin & Houston, yet the crowds are so different.

I don't mind cheering/reaction, but yeah, if you're having a conversation with your friend...fuck off outside and don't ruin it for everyone.

I don't usually mind cheering, but it is a bit annoying when people cheer during every quiet part of an instrumental set, on top of all the loud socializing. I also don't think it annoyed me as much until I started going to shows where people don't do either of those things. And it's awesome. Less crowded and people who are there to actually watch the band is a win win.

Ah, see most of the cheering/reaction I've experienced is at the height of a buildup/crescendo.

I revisited 'Asunder' earlier and I really hope GY!BE has something else up their sleeves soon--you never know with them

They always do, it just takes them literal years to release studio versions of it.  The new tracks they debuted during the Asunder tour are phenomenal.  Can't wait for that next album to drop.  Hopefully before 2019.

I know it. I keep thinking they'll surprise everyone and announce something soon. I haven't found or listened to any bootlegs, so just experienced the new tracks live about a year and a half ago.

I remember waking up and checking VC on my phone to see an Asunder PO thread.  Completely out of the blue.  The only thing better is what they did for 'Allelujah, where CDs and vinyl were just randomly set up on their merch table one evening, with official POs the following day.  The best kind of surprise – especially since the tour merch could be ripped and enjoyed without having to wait for months and months to hear the new music you pre-ordered.
