flowsunny
Hey, I'm looking for my first turntable and amp-setup to be used with my active Genelec 6010As. I was thinking of getting the Rega Planar 1 (300€/350$). I'm not completely sure what kind of an amp-setup I need to pair with my speakers. Would any of the below ones work? - Pro-Ject Box-Design A/D Phono Box S (220€/250$) http://www.project-audio.com/main.php?prod=adphonoboxs&lang=en - Pro-Ject Pre Box S (250€/300$) (http://box-designs.com/main.php?prod=preboxs&cat=default&lang=en - ONKYO A-9010 (220€/250$) http://www.eu.onkyo.com/en/products/a-9010-122158.html I'm currently using my speakers on my computer. Is it possible to use both the turntable and the computer as a source for the speakers or do I need something additional? I'm located in Europe. Budget for the turntable and amp is around 500€/600$. Thanks!
slinch
The Regas are a very good value over here in EU, the Planar 1 is a great choice. You don't need an amp, you only need a phono pre-amp. This means the onkyo is out, as it's a stereo amplifier, it's main job is what's already inside your genelecs. The Pro-Ject Pre Box S is just a line level pre-amp, it doesn't include a phono stage, which you need for your turntable, so it's out as well. The A/D Phono Box S is a phono pre-amp and a analog-to-digital converter combined, the first part is what you need, the second part is used to record your records to a computer. If you don't plan on doing this, then you're better off just buying a phono pre-amp without any additional functionality. There's a lot of choices: Project Phono Box Mk2 - 100€ Rega Fono Mini - 130€ Vincent PHO-200 - 130€ Project Phono Box S - 150€ NAD PP2 - 150€ Musical Fidelity V90-LPS - 160€ Project Phono Box III - 160€ Thorens MM002 - 190€ Project Phono Box DS - 200€ If you can afford to, go for the Phono Box DS. It will be a great pair for the Rega Planar. As for using multiple sources, the least expensive solution is to use an RCA switch, like this: https://www.amazon.de/HQ-ASWITCH-3-3-Fach-Stereo-eingangsschalter/dp/B000I8OOS8/ref=sr_1_1?s=ce-de&ie=UTF8&qid=1497127515&sr=1-1&keywords=rca+switch Edited June 10, 2017 by slinch

The 6010A speakers don't have a volume knob though and I didn't see any on the pre-amps either. Don't I need a pre-amp with a volume control? slinch
In that case the Pro-Ject Phono Box USB V should do the trick. Sure it's got the added USB feature, which you might not have the need to, but there aren't many alternatives in that price range.
