Hey, wasn't sure where to post this.

I've recently got into soundtracks. I listened to the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack and I am hooked. I'm also enjoying the No Man's Sky ost and Cliff Martinez' work esp Solaris, and also 35mm and Layers of Fear. Moon isn't bad either so I might check out more Clint Mansell.

Does anyone know any soundtracks similar to those?

Thanks a lot.

EDIT: I also love the Social Network soundtrack and any Reznor and Ross stuff really.

Wow, thank you! I've not listened to any of those, but I know what I'll be doing for the next few days. Nice one, thank you again.

Pawel Blaszczak's Dying Light OST should be right up your alley.

I'd also recommend checking out (just off the top of my head):

  • Dissasterpeace - Hyper Light Drifter
  • Mick Gordon - Prey
  • Ben Frost, Paul Haslinger - Rainbow Six Siege OST
  • Ben Salisbury- Ex-Machina
  • Cliff Martinez - The Foreigner, Drive (Really anything by him)
  • Jeff Grace - Cold in July
  • Hans Zimmer- Blade Runner, Dunkirk
  • Ryuichi Sakamoto - The Revenant
  • Nicholas Britell - The Big Short
  • Jóhann Jóhannsson - Sicario, and an upcoming movie called Mandy

If you want more orchestral:

  • Hans Zimmer - Batman Begins, Interstellar, Inception
  • Junkie XL- Black Mass
  • Max Richter- The Leftovers, Hostiles, Disconnect
  • Olafur Arnalds - Broadchurch
  • Gustavo Santaolalla - The Last of Us, Biutiful

Lost In Translation has a great OST, as well as the documentary 180 degrees South (mostly Modest Mouse/Isaac Brock stuff). To continue on the documentary kick, there's an amazing film about the homeless community living in the Amtrack tunnels in NYC in the 90's called "Dark Days," not sure if the OST is pressed though (DJ Shadow and the like).

I'm starting to realise what I like and what I don't. I like eerie sounding music, atmospheric, and sometimes chilled rather than in your face. I like piano/keyboard/synths with an eerie background. I suppose that's quite specific. I didn't like The Fountain because it sounded too 'clean' though I can't really describe what I mean by that. I don't like orchestral stuff unless it's minimal and I don't like dancey soundtracks or anything too up tempo. I really enjoyed most of It Follows but I didn't like the way it was quiet and then got loud. I just don't like that. I'm really fussy! :)

Anyway, just wanted to thank everyone again. I got Contagion, The Foreigner, Sicario, Moon, Dunkirk and Solaris in the mail today. Would have bought a lot more if they were available on vinyl. Cheers guys. (And I'm still accepting recommendations :D)

It’s Ugly Casanova on the soundtrack. No Modest Mouse for people who got their hopes up.
