sethdavid
As the title states ... looking to finally upgrade from our AT-LP60 . Right now we are looking at pretty much going "all-in" from U-Turn site with record player, preamp, speakers, and some accessories and that brings the total to around $1300. Does anyone have other suggestions in this price range? Also while we're at it can someone explain to me the pros and cons of built-in vs external pre-amp? Thanks! dynamitekid
I have the U-Turn table and I like it. Replacement parts are cheap too. I also have an external pre-amp and the one pro is if it goes out, you don't have to replace the whole turntable. The first con I thought of is it requires a whole separate power plug. Tommy
If it were me I'd do: Marantz PM5005 Integrated Amplifier ($500) Debut Carbon DC Esprit SB Turntable ($600) Wharfedale - Diamond 10.2 Bookshelf Speakers ($300) With some online coupon codes with TTL or other sites you should be able to get that down from $1400 to $1300 sethdavid

A very solid setup, durable and reliable. My next move, maybe when my kids are older, will likely be 3-4 times in price, because it will start to take a lot more money for bigger sound improvements. Tardcore
I would skip the PM5005 and look for a used/demo PM8004 and up. If you do some hunting, they come up for 500-600 and are a world apart from the 5/6 series.

Just got it all set up last night and it's sounding great. Thanks for the recommendations! Tommy
