Itiswhatitis96
Up until recently I just owned a portable record player. But after helping a friend move, he graced me with a whole turntable setup. I received a Pioneer PL-112D turntable, a JVC Stereo Reciever, model JR-S300, and a pair of AIWA speakers. I have everything set up and its playing my records, but the audio is just horrible. I can hear the audio just fine, but it's super fuzzy, and no matter how much troubleshooting I have done, it still ends up with the same result. Can anyone help me fix my problem? dethrock
Sounds like you have it set up right if you can hear everything okay. Is the stylus visibly dirty? I'd try cleaning it first and see if that makes any difference.
Itiswhatitis96
I cleaned the connections of the cartridge out with a little rubbing alcohol and a q-tip, and the sound improved just a little bit. How would I go about cleaning it more thoroughly?
dethrock
You can clean the actual stylus using a magic eraser. There's videos on youtube but be careful.
Itiswhatitis96
Yeah I watched a couple after your suggestion, I dont have one on hand, but I took the stylus off and it looks really worn down, might just buy a new one when I get the chance. Any suggestions?
dethrock
I don't know much about what would pair well with your turntable. There should be lots of information available on different forums. I've got a Ortofon 2M Blue on one turntable and a Goldring 2300 on another one, but they're both more modern TT's.
