Best Ever Math Rock Album

Recommended Posts

A little shameless self-promotion here. I joined a math rock band 6 months ago and we just released our new album. We did a pretty limited vinyl run if anyone is interested.

We've been described as being "Tera Melos for stoners" by Fecking Bahamas.

No word on vinyl or if ever there will be but never say never…

Still badly need Superbass on vinyl.

You liking this new album more than Memory Lame?  I actually couldn’t get excited about that one.  It’s by no means a bad record but it’s nowhere near as interesting (to me) as anything they did prior.

Memory Lame is an instrumental surf rock record. Yeah it's mathy, and I snapped it up with excitement but I don't revisit it near as much as Milk mouth. In fact, I still think the best of is this live performance, absolutely impeccable. Regardless, this is totally different approach, and it shows, because it's no longer a complete noodle fest, they're focusing on making some catchy moments and it's far more enjoyable. And yeah influences are worn the sleeve but in the best way.

Hope this gets vinyl at some point, it's really fantastic.

Heard of these guys from my Spotify recommendations. Anyone ever hear of these guys? Just can't stop listening. Too bad they never really picked up any recognition. They only have 3 EPs. Discogs lists them as math rock/ hard core.

Just looked this up on Spotify and I’m into it. Thanks for the recommendation. Reminds me of an instrumental Rodan or something.

When I was a wee lad and had lots of friends in bands, it seemed like we just intuitively knew what math rock meant, and the aforementioned Owls were the epitome of the sound, so they (and especially the first album) get my vote. Algernon Cadwallader are eerily similar, but I'll take it.

Some of my friends in bands who I would consider mathy were these guys: https://clickers.bandcamp.com/album/ep002

Great energy, great live shows, and now it's all available for free, so check it out. EP 2 is a good start.

Totorro (and friends) are releasing a soundtrack!

https://www.recreation-center.com/product/totorro-friend-x-fabcaro-et-si-l-amour-c-etait-aimer-soundtrack

Quote

When half of Totorro invites a friend, Pierre Marolleau, to compose music to create a concert comic on Fabcaro's work "And if love was to love", it gives first a great show, then a delicious disc! An original soundtrack that you can enjoy on this vinyl in necessarily very limited quantities, in a cute gatefold, the vinyl being wrapped in a rough kraft cover like an overdrive. The official release date is November 18, 2022. By pre-ordering it, you will get it a little earlier. Check the dates of BD concerts on https://www.lastationservice.org/Totorro-and-Friend-BD-concert-Fabcaro.html
