fondfarewell
A new “best of” compilation from Spoon, including a new single called “No Bullets Spent” (also available on separate 7”, thankfully, with the old track “Shake It Off” as the b-side). Available to preorder from Matador and the band’s store. Matador has better prices and shipping rates. https://spoon.ffm.to/ehao https://spoon.ffm.to/nobulletsspent
AlexH.
Huh. Seems a bit anachronistic for an active band to put out a greatest hits collection in this day & age, especially for a band with such a big, consistent catalog like Spoon. And you're never going to make everyone happy with just 12 tracks - no Written in Reverse? The Beast and Dragon Adored? Sister Jack?

And you're never going to make everyone happy with just 12 tracks - no Written in Reverse? The Beast and Dragon Adored? Sister Jack? Agree, it’s a bit weird. But I’ll take a new song and 7” any day. Won’t be buying the comp. Excerpt from Britt’s email announcement: We’d been considering the idea of this record for a while, years, thinking about our experiences with our own favorite hits records, and last year we decided to finally get after it. Was it an easy task pairing down our recorded output to the confines of one disc? No. Have some ungrateful friends, insiders & journalists already lodged complaints that their favorite Spoon song did not make the cut? Yes. Would Kelly Conaboy agree with you that “Metal Detektor” should be on there? Possibly. But we had to narrow this shit down somehow. After a couple weeks of late nights, listening to each album in its entirety & mulling over what constitutes a “hit,” the best thing seemed to be to pick our favorite songs to play and our favorite moments on record, then arrange them to give a flow & identity to this record itself. bubb4
d_bob76
I would love if these boys would've repressed Telephono and the Soft Effects EP instead. Maybe someday...
moodist
Did Spoon even ever have a hit? Or this is a subjective 'could've been' selection? It's such an ordinary tracklisting that seems to focus on cohesiveness and latter period blandness, rather than variety and versatility. Really did love this band when it seemed their entire career was one long uphill battle and then when they get the acclaim the fire goes out and everything turns to schmaltz. And damn straight no 'Metal Detektor'. A Series of Sneaks is still the best thing they ever did.

I’ve always preferred Kill the Moonlight and this comp features little to nothing off that that album either
