Its been a year. Has there been any update or news? 

 

Its funny that last year industry people we all "well this is devastating for industry", but here we are, business is still somewhat normal. While there have been delays at plants, it kinda seems like people are still cutting records and we haven't run out of lacquers. 

 

And then 2020 was the biggest year for records in 25 years.

I can say that mastering rates have basically tripled at (already pricey) studios that were reliant on Apollo lacquers. So it will inevitably push some labels out of the market for a really top-notch release where any real attention is paid to mastering. The original prediction was to expect more budget-grade cuts and a lot of DMM, which is more or less what has been the case as far as I’ve seen.
