Electronic Sound magazine with a pink 7" from Jarv Is

This month’s magazine and music bundle includes a snazzy pink vinyl seven-inch featuring two fantastic tracks by Jarvis Cocker’s new project JARV IS…. ‘Jimmy’ and ‘Joyce’ are sublime analogue sound paintings, seething with sizzle and twang and crackle and drone. Recorded with the help of his long-time collaborator Jason Buckle, they are probably Cocker’s purest electronic pieces to date. The tracks were originally commissioned by the iconic Scottish choreographer Michael Clark for his acclaimed 2012 production ‘Who’s Zoo?’, but they have remained unreleased until now.

“They have a very raw sound,” notes Cocker. “I was playing a Juno-60 and Jason had this strange drum machine. We recorded the whole thing live. The first time we played it, it broke the PA of the venue that we were in, because you can get such crazy sounds out of those keyboards. You have to be careful really. They can be quite painful.”
