BANDCAMP FRIDAYS - Official Thread for All Things BC Fridays - Fees Waived for Artists

Recommended Posts

Labels who are sending proceeds directly to their artists (via pitchfork)

Of Note:

Polyvinyl typically splits revenue with artists. From March 20–31, though, the label will waive its take on digital Bandcamp sales, giving the money right to the artists. In addition, all pre-2020 digital releases will be pay-what-you-want, starting at $1. All 2020 releases will also be pay-what-you-want, but starting at $5. Polyvinyl signees include: Alvvays, Xiu Xiu, and Jay Som.”

Maybe people could share some recent albums they have been digging that are available on Bandcamp to give people some ideas?  I've already scoured the Best Albums of 2019 list, as I do every year, but I'm always looking for more.  Here are some things from this year (or from 2019 that I discovered late) that I like:

-Floral Tattoo - You Can Never Have a Long Enough Head Start (TWIABP-esque emo)

-David Keenan - A Beginner's Guide to Bravery (Irish singer/songwriter)

-Rope and Ladder - Rope and Ladder (prog concept album)

-Dead Singers - Geographic (Scottish indie folk)

-Parannoul - Let's Walk on the Path of a Blue Cat (Korean instrumental mathrock)

-Snooze - Familiaris (I don't even know, but it's good)

Punk/Hardcore/Indie/Metal:

Division of Laura Lee (any/all) - Swedish Post-Punk, criminally underrated IMO.

Fireside - Do Not Tailgate sort of the Swedish Quicksand.

Extol - S/T death metal, w/ current members of Azusa.

Jade Tree has almost the entire catalog for super cheap.  Dischord has a lot of amazing stuff.  Startracks has old Refused stuff up.  Thrill Jockey, Merge, Sub Pop all continue to pull me back in.

One of the vocalists of Floral Tat is one of my best friends, so I’m gonna support this rec x10

Few suggestions:

Dides http://dides.bandcamp.com/

Unique instrumental chillwave from the dude behind From Indian Lakes.

Unconditional Arms https://unconditionalarms.bandcamp.com/album/what-i-had-left-behind

Very solid post-rock a la Tides of Man.

Holden Days https://blurescent.bandcamp.com/album/sylvan-lands-vol-ii

Chill dream-twinkle-folk, kinda like a hazier, more ethereal Fleet Foxes.

If you are interested in some old Cursive:

https://cursive.bandcamp.com/album/tides-rush-in-ep

This collection of songs was originally released as part of the 1998 Silver Scooter / Cursive split EP on Crank! Records. At the time. these songs were released on 10" vinyl and CD but never found a digital home. These are the Cursive tracks, available for one day only (March 20, 2020).

This is available as pay what you want.
