scentofdeath
Does anyone have this table and are you happy with it? Any peeves? Does the motor/speed switch behave well? Do you play records straight on the acrylic platter or do you have to throw a slipmat on there? I will appreciate any input or recommendation. Thanks. Never had a Pro-Ject unit before. ifworkpermits
I just upgraded my debut carbon to the debut carbon recordmaster hires, changed the cartridge to blue, and I love it. Did it mainly because I wanted the debut carbon with a preamp built in. The speed box is wonderful, but I’ve heard it can go out quickly (read it in reviews). I haven’t used a slipmat on it yet and don’t see the need to at this point. I would have went with the espirit but I wanted the built in preamp. Hope this helps. burntwolf
only ever heard good things about Pro-Ject. if i needed a TT now, i'd prob buy the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon. i have the Pro-Ject VCS and haven't had any complaints with it.
scentofdeath
Thanks guys. In a local specialized shop, I had a choice between that and a Fluance RT83 and went with the Fluance, mainly because the guy had a crazy good deal on it (last in stock and store moving). The Pro-ject table seemed a bit rigid to me and while the tonearm is probably better, it's also very limiting in cartridge choices. It was also twice the price given the deal they had on that Fluance turntable. The Fluance RT83 is amazing. You should really take a look at that. biodigitaljazz
Project Debut Carbon is a good "starter" table, while around $300. I've been meaning to put the Acrylic platter on my table... I still may yet soon. I wouldn't put a slipmat on it, either... The acrylic wont scratch your records... Add a clamp if unsure.
