found a brand new sealed copy of "take this to your grave" by FOB at Amoeba a few months before the quarantine...

For $24.99 ......

I bought the OG TTYG pressing at a show in 2004. They played with Matchbook Romance & Mest. I wasn't into buying records at the time but for some reason picked up TTYG for $10. Sold it on ebay a few years ago for $270.

I also found a copy of RX BANDITS - ....And the Battle Begun at a shop in NYC for $20 when it was OOP and going for 100+ on discogs.

I was at Indy in Indianapolis in 2011 and came across this for, something like, $16 and thought to myself “Doesn’t this go for a lot of money, you should buy it.” And didn’t. That was also the same day I passed on Clams Casino “Instrumentals” too 🤦‍♀️

I've gotten quite a few sweet-ass deals in the past...but only one that really sticks in my mind right now, was getting The Rookie Lot / Yearly split 7" for FREE.

All I had to was help a friend do some quality check on a program he was writing at the time. He gave me a few other 7"s but that's the one that stuck out most.

I won a Texas Is The Reason S/T 7" test press last week. So that probably is the best deal I've ever gotten as of late. Other than that, maybe coming across Caspian test presses, and winning one way back when. None of the rare ones I bought were cheap per say, but I was insanely lucky to be the one who ended up getting them, such as from people who worked on the pressing / album who agreed to sell it to me.

Found Tom Pettys "Wildflowers" in a local shop in a bargain bin for about 8 dollars. Sold it for 150 dollars years ago when I thought a repress was on the way. Hopefully we'll get that repress soon.

Previously I bought the original press of "Focus" by Cynic in the same store for about 4 dollars (around the time when the vinyl market was phased out in a lot of music stores). I still got that in my collection.

I've also been lucky on Ebay a few times - got a Neurosis testpress for 12 dollars. I also bought a white label version of Ziggy Stardust for £20.

Way too many deals to remember honestly so I'll just list one.

Bought a used copy of 3001 A Laced Odyssey by Flatbush Zombies last year from bullmoose for less than $20.

For selling I'd say its the usual OOP record that's getting a repress. (still waiting for the announcement for Alphabet. Alphabets. by Trophy Scars to unload my splatter variant)

Wild to me that this still hasn't been repressed. I've been sitting on an OG copy in perfect condition that I bought for something like $12 from Virgil back in the old VC days, and my wife and I probably discuss once a month if we should sell it or not.

I remember YEARS ago, I won Against Me!'s first EP for like $60 on eBay. When I received it, I realized it was from you @scottheisel!

Another one I'll never forget was scoring the red promo copy of Deftones "White Pony" at Amoeba for $50, after remembering that I had store credit. It was on the wall and the full price was...$100.

My crown jewel is my Deerhunter S/T album from 2005 - was bidding on one on eBay and... no one else big against me. It still baffles my mind since it wasn't listed with a vague description or anything, the seller knew exactly what they had. Paid a whopping $21 and it goes for $150-200 on Discogs these days.

Some others are my true first press of The Bends (no 0% on the inner sleeve) for $23 (cheapest one on Discogs is currently $128), a bunch of Newbury represses  for retail that have jumped in value (Lorde - Pure Heroine on clear being the current winner) and an OG MCR discography, including the Black Parade box set and the original marble press of Danger Days, for either retail or sale prices.  And far from being the best deals ever, but today I scooped up OG pressings of TVU - White Light/White Heat and Iggy Pop - Lust for Life for $30 and $25 respectively. That was pretty dope.

Most expensive sold would be my Newbury colored copies of The Strokes - S/T and Room on Fire for around $200 each. Two albums I enjoy, but I couldn't justify keeping them for those prices. Not a big enough Strokes fan. I think I sold my coke bottle clear copy of TTTYG for somewhere around that too, but I definitely regret that one... miss it dearly and I have no hope of acquiring another one if there isn't a repress.

Starflyer 59 - Everybody Makes Mistakes for $8 on eBay in ~2008 because the seller didn’t have the band name in the listing. Found it through sheer chance browsing based on other things they had listed. The vinyl was in great condition but the sleeve was pretty beat. Then 2-3 years ago Velvet Blue found some extra sleeves in a box and put them up for sale for a few bucks, so I basically have a mint copy for under $20. It was a $50 record when I bought it and a >$150 record in recent years.

I sold the Paper + Plastick pressing of fun’s Aim & Ignite for like $150 which I bought the day it went up for preorder. Not sure I could ever sell a record for more than that even if it was worth more, I think it would stress me out.

Also I feel like anyone who hung onto some of those Ferret Records releases that Virgil was blowing out during the fall of VC 1.0 has claim to posting in this thread. He was giving them away with each order and selling huge bundles for dirt cheap. I had at least 3 or 4 and sold them eventually for maybe $10-20 thinking I was coming out way ahead, but I looked them up recently and I don’t think any of them go for less than like 40 bucks now, with some in the $100+ range.

Got a copy of The Fall of Troy - Doppelganger in NM condition on Discogs for $30 NZD (approx $20 USD) the other month, that might be my best honestly, what a deal considering it normally goes for $130-140 NZD.

Like others have said, too many things to really pick a 'best deal'...

but this did remind me I bought a "Mystery Grab Bag LP" from ETR a few years back.

Ended up snagging a copy of Manipulator, long OOP for like $28, goes for about $150 on discoggs.

Very cool move by those guys, even though they have a bad rep around here, they got my respect.
