I don’t buy nearly as many records these days but god damn it would be time consuming trying to update everything 5/6 years later. Yeah, my DF list definitely won't be as organized as it once was. Assuming the formatting is the same as it used to be, it'll likely end up just being some form of a copy/paste of my Discogs export.
scottheisel
I never even made a DF list, I was loyal to Recordnerd. This thing hasn't been updated since 2009: https://www.recordnerd.com/lists/scottheisel I had roughly 1000 records then, vs. roughly 4000 now. faaip de oiad
FEN1XD0WN
Good golly gee, it would be cool to have this back. Would save time on re doing everything for discogs.
deadformat
2022 is gonna be a good year! Also don’t pay too much attention to the design of those lists everyone is pulling up - glad y’all are enjoying the trip down memory lane though 🙂 backpackoat, V3XED, faaip de oiad and 13 others
somethingvinyl
Pretty cool to see this. Now I can weep for records I once possessed but have now sold. Still have most of these, though: https://deadformat.com/collection/somethingvinyl
Rip
How’re you guys finding your old pages? I keep getting a 404 error.

I had to try a bunch of different names since it had been so long. It’s also case sensitive.

Wild to look at where my collection was and titles I had (that I still wish I did) compared to where it is now. somethingvinyl

Only the collection URLs are working again for the time being. Actually, with the "Haves" and the "Wants" tabs. Although, the "for sale" icon is active already. Rip
Finally figured out how to get mine to work and holy shit. Can’t believe I’ve pretty much doubled my collection in just 4 years. I’m talking like… over 500 more in that time. TheWindBlower and faaip de oiad

MyckelJay
My collection just shows up empty. Not a loss for me though. Was turned off by DF after I placed an order on their march store. They never fulfilled it or answered any emails. Had to go through PayPal to get my money back. Took like two or three months. I always found Discogs more organized and easy to use anyways. I do admit it'd be neat to see a DF comeback though, and I'm happy for those of you who liked to use it.
SBarry
I really disliked discogs initially but I grew to enjoy it more and more over time. I really only navigated there due to deadformat becoming extinct.

HardlineKid
I wasn't around when Dead Format was a thing... but what's wrong with Discogs?

DF let you do your own formatting of things, it was less a database and more a collection manager. When it was around I always thought that Discogs was too complicated; but I don't think I could go back now. HardlineKid
MCDELTAT
52 minutes ago, HardlineKid said: I wasn't around when Dead Format was a thing... but what's wrong with Discogs? As above, it was more of a “collection manager”. For example: You could just have a solid block that was “here’s every record I have” a la Discogs. Or you could go “Here’s the 7s, here’s the 10s, here’s the 12s”. Or a lot of people that variant collect would create a list of every variant they knew of, Color the ones they didn’t have with one color/shade and everyone they did with another. Basically a glorified public spreadsheet, but it had its niche when people wanted control.
Shelby
Discogs is a better collection manager than DF ever was tbh. People just can't figure out how to use it for whatever reason.
