vinylrecordnewbie
Hello This is the first time to post on here. I recently started to use my record player a lot more (Sony ps-lx300usb - basically a plug and play out of the box). My current player is about 11 years old and I've come to notice a few things about it, I've started to think about upgrading and still have the ability to make digital copies of the records. After looking around on the net, I seem to like the look of the Pro-ject decks and some of the upgrade options available e.g choice of platter, matts etc. Is there anything I should be aware of when considering one of their decks, as I don't have a lot of knowledge and experience about decks. Thanks in advance for all comments, look forward to reading them!
museummouth
Pro-ject is a very reputable brand. I've owned 3 of their tables, and only ever got rid of them to upgrade to another one. You can't really go wrong with even their intro level stuff.

Have you noticed any notable increase to sound or experience with each upgrade? I'm never sure what's/when it's worth upgrading
drewpeabottom
I have a DC EVO. I've upgrade to the acrylic platter and the Sumiko Olympia stylus. Both seemed to give me noticeable improvements to the sound, but I'm by no means an audiophile.
bluethumb
I am still spinning my Pro-Ject Debut III from 2012 - I may be overdue for an upgrade but I've been happy with the sound - they make quality tables. +1 for the acrylic platter, and the Speed Box makes a nice addition for convenience - it lets you swap between 33 > 45 without removing the platter and supposedly keeps your RPMs more consistent. I've also heard good things about the Sumikos, and I've been really happy with a 2M Blue for the last handful of years.
bjorn
My first table was a Pro-Ject and I loved it. The only thing I'd avoid is the models with rubber band motor suspensions, though I'm not sure if they still do this. Isolation was insufficient and motor hum would get into the signal. Models where the motor is completely decoupled from the plinth (RPM 1.3, 3, etc) would be worth considering in my opinion.
