So, this is a whole thing (https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/20/arts/music/the-wrens-aeon-station.html?searchResultPosition=1) but this new album from Kevin Whelan certainly scratched my long standing Wrens itch, so I’m in.

That song was so good damn. I couldn't read the article cuz I'm not paying did it say the new Wrens isn't coming out now?

I think this is the full article: https://dnyuz.com/2021/09/20/the-18-year-wait-for-new-wrens-music-is-over-sort-of/ Basically Whelan got tired of waiting on Bissell to finish the new Wrens album so he's releasing the 5 songs he wrote for the album plus more on his own as Aeon Station.

Not sure why I wasn't expecting much from this album, but this song is fucking good.

This is a good summary for those who can’t read the NYT article.

I get that Bissell want the new Wrens to be perfect, but holy fuck.  It's become a meme at this point.  Over the years I've found myself becoming more bitter and annoyed than hyped.  I'll still check it out but man oh man, is it nice to finally have something official and physically happening for once.  Good for Whelan.

One of those albums that after one listen is enough for instant connection. Such a solid album. I'll check out some wrens stuff (never listened to their stuff ever), the backstory comes across a bit sad, sounds like the other guy isn't ready and is just taking it at his own speed/not rushing, but I'm glad something got released. Imagine being sat on this kind of stuff for decades.

this bummed me out from the website.

Things continued apace into the fall - so that's last fall, a year ago, 2022 - when discussions began between the other former-wrens & myself, Cory (he of Absolutely Kosher), along with our former management, trying to hash out a plan to re-release the meadowlands for its 20th anniversary (which just passed a few weeks ago).

As those talks broke down, it was clear we would not be re-pressing/re-releasing the album but there was good that came out of it - among other things, I was reminded what a good, and crucially, honest person Cory was.

Yeah that’s a huge shame.  I know it’s a crude breakdown of everything that fully transpired, but from an outsider’s perspective looking in as a fan, the ship for a Meadowlands repress has sailed along with a future Wrens album… primarily because Charley is a perfectionist and had to bake their songs longer.
