I'm quite new to records as I've recently bought an SL-6 off of eBay that seems to be in pretty good shape, even the plastic lid looks good. It has an Ortofon TM-14 on it, which I believe is an aftermarket cartridge if I did my research correctly. Is it worth replacing the stylus with the one off of LP Gear, or should I get the Audio Technica T4P cartridge because the TM-14 is worse? Thank you to whoever answers, you're awesome! hoytis Posted November 16, 2021 Share Posted November 16, 2021 Congrats on the TT! First question...why do you want to replace the stylus? Is it definitely worn out? Hearing distortion? Is it not tracking properly? If that's the case I would just buy the best replacement stylus I could afford for the TM14. However, if it plays fine and it's only a signature sound you're not in love with, I would throw as much money as I could at a different cart (heard good things about the AT / LP Gear T4P reference series). IndexBDR Posted November 16, 2021 Author Share Posted November 16, 2021 I have no idea on how old the stylus is, it sounds fine when I played it on one of my records.
