I wasn’t crazy about the last album, to the point where I was wondering if I was just becoming kind of bored with the National, but the new song has my hopes a bit higher. When they released it they said: "We are so happy to finally share a new song with you. “Weird Goodbyes,” featuring our friend Bon Iver, is the first song we are releasing from a new record we’ve been working on the last few years. We hope you love it as much as we do." The announcement goes on to say: “Weird Goodbyes” also features the London Contemporary Orchestra and is one of several new songs we’ve been playing this summer that may be part of our new album we are close to finishing — more about that soon! Today, the description of the Cherry Tree preorder that includes "Weird Goodbyes" as a flexi says: Cherry Tree members who pre-order First Two Pages of Frankenstein via the member store will also receive a Flexidisc single of “Weird Goodbyes (feat. Bon Iver).” Previously released digitally, this will be an initial physical release of the song ahead of its future home. Perhaps there'll be a second part of the album? Man, I had the order button for the Spotify, but decided to navigate away to see if there was a Cherry Tree version. It wasn't posted yet, and by the time I went back to Spotify, it was gone. I really don't like the SoundCloud rapper 'piano over digital drums' stuff they've done with Weird Goodbyes and the last 2 LPs. I probably still have a sealed copy of I Am Easy To Find sitting around somewhere because I blindly pre-ordered it then hated the singles lol. Anyways, I doubt this new record will be another Trouble Will Find Me, but if they're revisiting that style and before then I'm interested in hearing this new album.
