cadetapplesauce
broadway calls i fucking regret missing out on that. i just sat down and listened to them play instead of seeing them in a tiny ass spot. it was insane. but it was more that their record didn't really do it for me. i had to listen to it a couple of times and then see them live to get into it. tattoosdonthurt
Alkaline trio. They opened up for less than jake. I still have the ticket stub. October 5th, 1998. I thought they were horrible, but I hadn't heard any of their stuff at that point. Of course, now I have the skull heart design on my arm. Weird how things work out. mrc
The best live show I have seen from a band I did not like was No Fraud. Crazy live show with a singer who had a little suitcase of "props", ranging from dildos to porn mags to rubber bouncy balls. I remember several times a wrestling match break out during their set.Recorded, I could not stand them. OH SHIT, no fraud. i forgot about those guys. i used to have babe watch 7" and i have no idea where that went. saw them a few times, i think they played with the nobodys one time. dont remember the other bands they played with. good times
thesack18
a death in the family. i saw them open up for strike anywhere when they toured here some time back. i walked out to think a slurpee was a better option. came back in to see them stop playing mid song to kick some douche out. i thought that was awesome. but the music blew. next time i saw them, i really dug it. i dont know what clicked, but now theyre probably my favourite aussie band
suburbanargyle
At The Drive-In, opening for Rage Against the Machine in 99. Didn't know of them at the time, but these skinny dudes with afros just went off on stage.
casey
I had never heard of Kid Dynamite when I saw them open for Good Riddance. I liked them, but it would have been way better if I knew the songs by heart like I do now.
crime
fake problems. had no clue who they were until i saw them open up for against me! a few years back.

slymer
I saw Pedro the Lion open for Jets to Brazil way back when. I had no idea who Pedro the Lion was at the time. Wasn't into them at all. Now I think they're great.
Guest baseball
Murder By Death. I was indifferent when I saw them, but love them now.
forgeagain
Sweep the Leg Johnny. Saw them open for Braid at the Metro (must have been 1997 or 1998?) so the sound was brutal, which might have been why I found them annoying. Obviously I saw them many times later at much better sounding venues and enjoyed them much more. Their last Fireside show might have been one of the best shows I ever saw there. xfactor675
mewithoutYou supporting Brand New on their European tour. Before the show I couldn't stand Aaron's "talking", but damn they did an awesome show and since then I like mwY.

controlthebleeding
Once when i went on tour with a band from my hometown, we wound up playing a show in shreveport at a local punk club. WHen i saw the lineup i was psyched, because we were playing with SCOOBY DONT who was one of my favs on a HOT WATER comp (not to be confused with HWM). Anyway, after we played, then went on, and i was kinda indifferent, but then Dillinger Four came on stage, and i was so happy i got to see them. I was happy i got to take pics. I had never heard them before, but after their show i bought their whole discography at the time (2 7"s) and have since been a fan. That was probably the most fun i had at a show that whole tour, besides the Los Crudos gigs.
birdwell
thought of another... The Sleepy Jackson...went to watch Mellowdrone play a show in Athens, GA and Sleepy Jackson was headlining...didn't care for 'em at the time...ended of loving that record afterwards though

keevhren
The very first show I ever went to was a Bouncing Souls show. I didn't care for them at the time; I was there to see Tsunami Bomb who were supporting them. A couple years later the Souls would be my favorite band. this tour was awesome. DC show ruled to say the least. I think ive seen the souls a good 20-30 times by now, never ever ever get's old.
vivsavage
Saw Jawbreaker with the Queers at the Soma in San Diego in 1994. I was in high school and just wanted to see the Queers and didn't give Jawbreaker a chance. Bad me.

lostapostle
Isis at Club Laga in Pittsburgh. There was like 100 people there. I went to see Dillinger Escape Plan and was unfamiliar with Isis then. To this day, my wife points out to me every time we listen to Isis (I forced her to come to the show with me) that someone played a Didgeridoo on stage. I'm such an idiot. deafmx
hmmm quite a few i can think of where i didn't know the band at the time and the live show sold me on them. Arcade Fire at 400 bar in 2004. wasn't believing the hype but they blew me away live then "Funeral" blew up and i tried to see them again. the crowd were a bunch of assholes and ruined them for me but i'll never forget that jam packed club show where they were absolutely amazing. At The Drive-In opening for The Get Up Kids at the Foxfire lounge in 99. i had only heard their name but didn't know a thing about them. they blew my mind, i wanted to own everything they had for sale as soon as they were done. they were the show stealer of the night, as much as i love TGUK. A.F.I. in the 7th street entry in 97?? can't remember exactly when but they played in the entry, a small room next to the first avenue main room and i was kinda impressed with them. i later saw them opening for The Offspring/L7 in the first avenue mainroom and liked them more. i then checked out "Black Sails In The Sunset" in a coffee shop listening station and loved it. i kinda missed the boat, i haven't been a huge fan of anything since "The Art Of Drowning". Far, july 96, first avenue. opening for Gravity Kills. i walked in on Far and was just blown away by them. i had never heard of them, i was there to see Gravity Kills of course. Afterwards, i bought a GK shirt and forgot about Far for a few months until i picked up "Tin Cans With Strings To You" at a local store. when "Water & Solutions" was about to come out, i absolutely loved them and started to collect everything via mailorder from jonah. i never did get to see Far again so i'm bummed that after 12 years they're playing shows in CA at places i've seen many a band but don't live anywhere near now. shafted again. they only played in MN one time. brennan
this is kinda weird. i love no use for a name's new record... the feel good album of the year... i saw them open for NOFX and it barely even clicked that it was the same band. I think it was just the venue.
jhamm212
American Steel! I saw them last year when they were touring with TLA/Faclon/Sundowner and they blew me away. I bought Destroy Their Future that night and then went on to listen to the old records. I wish I would have been into them when I saw them, though.
