Agreed.

Don't go prowling through the EVERYTHING ELSE category at work.

yes, but there are times when you'll click on a seemingly normal thread and then BAM PORN INCEST BOOKS from the 80's.

why should the many suffer for the few?

ok nerd, anyways, it probably isnt a good idea to be browsin a vinyl thread at work is it? unbelievable

if you're using this at work "to keep up with preorders" then you shouldn't be on the etc board anyways. this board is a time waster. do your job or find another site to waste time on, don't bitch when someone posts something graphic and you're dicking off on here.

What planet are you from? I work 10 hours a day and I'm really great at my job, so there is nothing wrong with me popping onto this board every hour or so to check what's going on, to see if any pre-orders, etc...have gone up. It's not "dicking off." I'm in front of a computer all day, it serves as a nice, quick break.

And when I'm doing that, it would be nice to be warned if something questionable or graphic is going to pop up on my screen. When I had my own office before my company moved, it wasn't a problem. Now we're in an open environment where pretty much anyone can see my monitor. For the most part, people here act like adults and flag threads or their posts, but there are times when that doesn't happen and someone could get in trouble.

It all comes down to common courtesy. Why can't people on here just understand that? It's about mutual respect.

As usual, I agree with hickey. Why should browsing a vinyl thread at work have any negative connotations? It's not vinyl fetish clothing, it's records. Would you go around and post pictures of dongs on family or kid-related sites and say "Oh it's their problem, they shouldn't be on this site at such and such a time." If something isn't deemed and understood to be a pornographic site and someone does something to make it one (even if it's just in one place) all you have to do is say "Here's some stuff you might not want to check out at work." Everyone wants to act like a fucking kid that can do what they want and it's always someone else's problem if they do something stupid. Also, none of you are our employers, so you have zero place to say what is and what isn't appropriate for us to do at work. Jeez, just have a little respect for other people. I really don't see why that's so hard.

Hey, if you guys want to look at dicks that's your deal. I just want fair warning.

Seriously, I think a process should be in place: First offense gets a warning. Second offense gets you banned. It may be a joke to some of you, but it could create serious consequences for people...it's really not too much to ask.

Are you kidding? You think people should be banned the second time they don't post a "NSFW" in the title of thread after (usually, or at least possibly) ANOTHER poster posts an NSFW image in that thread, so you can look at a message board at work? Let me point out several ways this is a completely HORRIBLE idea.

Let's say I hate The Real David Blaine.

- He posts some thing about Metallica

- I post a cock in the thread about 8 hours later (maybe while he is at work and NOT looking at message boards)

- Mods see the cock and the absence of a NSFW

- They warn TRDB

- Repeat

- The TRDB is banned.

The threadstarter is NOT responsible for what others post in this thread, so he can't be liable for it.

The poster cannot add a NSFW so they can't be liable.

Besides, are most people's employers ok with them surfing boards at work as long as there isn't a dragon dick?

I am not saying people can't be more respectful about posting NSFWs, but it is ridiculous to say that we should be banning people.

Jesus, he didn't say anything about banning the thread starter. And I can't speak for anyone else, but yes, my employers are pretty much okay with me surfing the interwebz at work as long as A) I don't get a virus or B) Check out anything pornographic. Again, what the fuck is so complicated about taking accountability, being respectful, and not posting dragon dicks without doing this:

NSFW:

*Insert dragon dick here.

Did you forget how to read? I did not suggest banning the thread starter. I was saying that if someone posts something pornographic without proper warning, they receive a warning. If they ignore that warning and do it again, they are banned. It's as simple as putting "NSFW" and hitting enter a few times before posting a pic of your boyfriend's dong. Grow the fuck up and show some respect, and it shouldn't be an issue. There really shouldn't be any debate here. If you're not mature enough to understand this maybe you should go back to sitting at the kids table.

Note from the VC Guidelines:

The other thing I would like to say is that people be respectful of others. I hate message boards where people attack new posters for not knowing how the board operates. I want everyone to feel welcome to use this board as a forum to discuss the greatest musical format in the world, Vinyl! Any repeat offending assholes will be booted off of the board.

Instead of this bickering back and forth why doesn't someone just ask Virgil what he thinks and then just put this issue to bed?

I definitely agree that people should be courteous. I don't believe I've ever posted a NSFW image without a tag. I'm just unsure of where I stand on forcing people to be courteous. After that are we going to start banning people who don't always say nice things?

And my mockery posts were not making fun of everyone in this thread, just those that believe that the internet was created for their own pleasure and that every new user is ruining it for them a little more.

No moral standard about it. My work doesn't care if I post on a message board on their computer using a name with hooker in it. They do mind when they flag pornographic images on their computers. If it was up to me my desktop would be an image of our beloved Jessica Beil pouring wax on her naked boobs. But my moral standards have nothing to do with the moral standards of 99% of the offices in this world.

Everyone should conform their behavior to my convenience or else.

Thanx.

ps Up teh punx.

No. People should show respect. It's not about conforming behavior, it's about showing some level of respect. Yes, you're so punk and so are the pictures of your boyfriend's cock. I don't want to see it. Or, at least, I want some sort of chance to determine whether or not I want to see it while I'm working. Is a little bit of courtesy too much to ask for?

Serious question: What is your problem with flagging offensive shit with a "NSFW" tag? Will it really inhibit you? Will you not be able to post pornographic pics? Will it lessen your chances to see pictures of dicks? I really want to know why this will be such a hindrance on your enjoyment of this board. Really. Please answer. Will the terrorists win if you can't post pics of your man-servant's wang without a "NSFW" flag?

Hey guys and gals...

It's kinda silly to be having to say this but it needs to be reminded.

If and when you feel the need to post a picture or thread that can be deemed or seen as graphic or vulgar, please make sure that you put NSFW (Not Safe For Work) in the thread title.

A large amount of fellow VCers browse the boards from their workplace and it can be a risk for them if they happen to be reading a thread with graphic pics and no warning.

I received a message from a VCer that this happened to just today:

"We’ve had a bunch of people posting insanely NSFW pictures in the forum and I got tagged at work today as trying to view a pornographic website for checking the forum during work today because a thread linked to a picture of a guys cock tattooed with a dragon on it. Can we get a rule that people can’t post NSFW pictures without announcing them in the thread title? There are a lot of people like myself who post from work and it would suck if we couldn’t keep up on pre-orders during the day because of this..."

For the most part, the "NSFW" tag has been done on thread titles whenever applicable...esp. on the more lengthy threads we've had like the "Manly Man" one. But there are a few that fall through the cracks and sure enough...someone will be unlucky enough to be browsing that thread, and then their boss walks by.

As usual...please abide by the posting guideline and be courteous to your fellow VCers. We're all grown-ups around here. Hopefully. ;)

I'm not against the use of the NSFW tag, but there's a difference between keeping up on preorders and opening a thread about goatse. If the person who messaged you is concerned about inappropriate images, then perhaps he/she shouldn't be dicking around on the board at work, and should just use it for the preorders.

Or not.

It's as simple as putting "NSFW" and hitting enter a few times before posting a pic of your boyfriend's dong.

At my school, a page you open is flagged as porn if an image on the page is hosted on a site that is deemed pornographic (which is far more sites than it should be). If someone posted a dragon dick in this thread, I could open the thread, and I would receive the notification. So you could "enter" a million times, and it would be the same as just posting it in the first post. Not sure how businesses filter the web, but that isn't necessarily a solution for everyone.
