xxfesterxx
my cable receiver gets HD channels and my big screen has HDMI support. Is this all i need to get my HD channels in true HD? http://www.meritline.com/3-pcs-of-6-feet-hdmi-male-to-male-digital-av-cable-28-awg---p-26865.aspx any input would be great
xfedupx
Yes...as long as your cable box has HDMI out, you're gold!
roadmonkey
The HDMI cables will display a full 1080P display, as long as that is the resolution that is being broadcast by the HD channel that you are watching. If I am not wrong, most HD channels broadcast in 760p right now. either way, if you hook up your cable receiver to the HDMI port, you will get whatever the best resolution that is being broadcast

kyle
I highly recommend a 90* adaptor. It might not make sense now but when you plug the cables in you'll see how plugging them straight in (the way the TV is designed) could potentially damage the HDMI port in the TV. http://www.meritline.com/90-degree-hdmi-male-to-female-adapter---p-33518.aspx
thomas
Yeah, my HDMI cord is super thick (I think it's meant to be run through a wall) and it freaks me out plugged in my TV since it's so coiled up. I'm always afraid it's going to rip out the port if I hit it, but my TV has 4 HDMI inputs, so it's not a big deal.
xxfesterxx
so the ports are that fragile eh?
thomas
No, not really, but it's better safe then sorry sometimes.
kyle
No, not really, but it's better safe then sorry sometimes. The port on my dad's TV is loose but that's after a lot of plugging and unplugging. It still works, but that 90* plug would have prevented it. And for $3 it's a no-brainer.
thomas
I can see that happening if you constantly unplug it, but mine has never been unplugged from the back of the TV, only from my xbox.
Duff
I can see that happening if you constantly unplug it, but mine has never been unplugged from the back of the TV, only from my xbox. I don't mean to threadjack, but I just got a 42" TV and hooked up my 360 through the HDMI cable. Isn't it glorious?! gaming is not the same after going from an HD setup back to a standard TV setup. my jaw dropped the first time i hooked up my PS3, i expected it to be good, but not that good.
