Official Record Stores List (help us list them)

Recommended Posts

I'm gonna be in Chicago from this Wednesday until next Monday. I've heard nothing but good things about Reckless, but which of those other ones are the best? I haven't got time to visit them all. :(

check out permanent (not far from reckless on milwaukee),

Dave's if you have time, but it's isolated.

Lauries Planet of Sound and the Chicago Independent store are both off Western Ave. ..but about 23 blocks apart

Lauries and Dead Wax are both on Lincoln Ave, but about 10 blocks from each other. Dead Wax is spotty, but sometimes they have a lot of things.

if you're at Lauries, you're about 15 blocks from Shake Rattle and Read.

SPEAKERTREE - Lynchburg, VA

http://speakertreerecords.com/Site/Home.html

Haven't been here but they were set up at a record swap thing here in richmond and had a lot of cool stuff ... leaning towards indie rock. plenty of info on their site.

DEEP GROOVE - Richmond, VA

New small Vinyl only store.. Heavy on LPs, not much in terms of singles.

PAUL'S BOUTIQUE - A hilarious used record store that never seems to be open during logical business hours. Paul's stock doesn't move and, after being flipped through endlessly, the sleeves are pretty worn. For example, a record priced at $20 when first put into stock might have been fair 2 years ago but not when it's been beat to hell since. Nevertheless. I've pulled some good '90s alternative LPs from there.

i bought new found glory - sticks and stones on white a couple years ago for like 15$, i was surprised to see that there, and even more surprised that the jacket was in excellent condition. it wasn't the same with the homegrown record tho, corner was bent as fuck, and was still priced at 15$, haha.

in Memphis, TN I've been to Shrangri-La...that place is incredible...their hours suck, I've made attempts at stopping by 3 times and only been successful once. At anyrate, if you're in memphis, it's definitely worth checking out, especially if you're into Used vinyl, they have an insane amount of Jazz and Blues.

P.S. it doesn't hurt that they're right down the street from Ardent Studios either

The Detroit area (off the top of my head):

Dearborn Music

22000 Michigan Avenue

Dearborn, MI 48124

(313) 561-1000

www.dearbornmusic.com

One of the best new vinyl selections on the West side. Some used vinyl. Loads of new CD's. Separate Jazz room.

Stormy Records

13210 Michigan Avenue

Dearborn, MI 48126-3539

(313) 581-9322

www.stormyrecords.com (terrible website)

OK new vinyl selection. Better used vinyl selection. I always seem to find something here to buy. Owner is cool.

Record Graveyard

2926 Caniff Street

Hamtramck, MI 48212-3017

(313) 870-9647

http://www.myspace.com/recordgraveyard

Huge selection of used vinyl. Some new vinyl. This place is a bit of a mess. There's stacks of records everywhere.

Car City Records

21918 Harper Avenue

St Clair Shores, MI 48080

(586) 775-4770

http://www.myspace.com/carcityrecords

Good selection of used vinyl. Some new vinyl. This used to be the best place for promo vinyl. Still worth an hour or two.

Record Time

27360 Gratiot Ave.

Roseville, MI 48066

(586) 775-1550

www.recordtime.com

Legendary for techno, industrial and house vinyl. Kid Rock and Eminem shopped here. Selection is nowhere near what it was 15 years ago, but they're hanging in there. Decent used vinyl selection today. Owner is the nicest guy in the business.

Melodies & Memories

23013 Gratiot Avenue

Eastpointe, MI 48021

(586) 774-8480

This place kinda dumpy. There's a ton of records crammed in a too-small building. Mostly used vinyl. Be prepared to grovel on your hands and knees to find stuff.

Flip Side Records

41 East 14 Mile Road

Clawson, MI 48017-2132

(248) 585-4090

www.shopflipsiderecords.com

Decent selection of used vinyl. Last time I was in there they had some cool punk stuff.

Solo Records

30118 Woodward Ave

Royal Oak, MI 48073

(248) 549-0581

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Royal-Oak-MI/Solo-Records/147339023682

This place used to be in Birmingham. It was better back then. Used to haul a lot of $1 promos out of there. Nowadays they have a semi-decent selection of used classic rock vinyl.
