moonbeams
ridge and the vinyl? I recently got a pro-ject debut with an orofon cartridge. I have the weight set to 15 as the instructions say. however, the cartridge seems to be getting closer and closer to the record, just gliding over the surface. it doesn't feel right. Any help? xxmartinxx
I'm not sure what you're asking here.
chiefwahoo
Took me forever to figure out as well. I think he is saying that the cartridge itself is getting closer to the record. As if the stylus is under more and more weight.
mattstrike
You set the tracking force to 15 or 1.5? Big difference there…

ajxd
...did it come pre-installed? If so, it should be correctly done, or I would chew out the company you purchased from. Either way, if the music is effected, then increase the weight of the counterbalance and set the anti-skate accordingly. If the music sounds correct, then leave it. Or, all in all, call the factory who produced the table, or call the distributor who installed your cartridge. People here can't see what you're talking about, and to my knowledge, none of us work for these companies! Call.
ajxd
But to answer your question in my opinion, it should be slightly above... it also matters on the cantilever. Which depends on the cartridge. Ortofon makes a lot.
mattstrike
Just remembered that the Debut doesn't have a built in VTA adjustment (just like Music Halls and Regas) - and since the cart was pre-installed, I definitely think you have no reason to worry. If you are not using the stock felt mat, go back to using it. Thicker mats can affect VTA slightly - besides causing the cart to ride closer to the record surface, it can also cause inner groove distortion. I really think you have nothing to worry about. moonbeams
Thanks for the help. It's an espirit from Germany. No sense in calling. I used google translator to order it. The instructions recommend 1.5. I had it on 1.8 because I followed the youtube set up
