chubbler108
I just got a new slipmat for my turntable (it's a Fat Wreck Chords slipmat). The slipmat that I had before was fairly thin, but this one is about twice the thickness of the old one. Should I change the weight of my cartridge because now the record will be higher up on the platter? I am worried about this damaging my records from too much force going down on them. It might, but it would lessen your tracking force which isn't a big deal unless it affects record playability. The odds are it's minimal so I wouldn't worry about it. mattstrike
Besides, the only thing a thicker slipmat does is effect the VTA - not the tracking force.
steventangent
Wouldn't the force of gravity pull down on the tonearm pretty much the same no matter how thick it is?
