Sinus Infection Remedies

Neti pots are awesome! I also found that doing some facial massage really helps as well. The warmer your hands are the better. I normally rub my forehead in a circular motion and then work down the rest of my face kind of pulling down on the sides of my nose and right next to it. This helps loosen the mucus a bunch and should alleviate some of the pressure.

sudafed sudafed sudafed.

i get awful sinus infections every year and i usually let them go so long that they go into my eyes, which get infected and them i wind up with pinkeye.

so if at all possible, i'd go to the doctor and get some antibiotics (z-pak is the best) to take care of that.

nick j couldn't have said it better, i'm on my 8th day of amoxicillin and feel great.

Neti pot all day though, I use it every day in the shower more or less.

I get infections a few times a year, this one i fought off with a combo of the amox, fluticasone (flonase) spray, and sudafed/nyquil. I wish there was a more permanent remedy for sinus infections, they ruin my life and make me dread winter.

without fail, i get 2x sinus infections ever year and the only thing that will ever make me better is amoxicillin. might want to hit up a doctor if you have the ability to do so. it'll save you lots of feeling like shit.

otherwise, neti pot/saline spray are alright for non-medications.

For the last three or four years now, twice a year when I get a cold, it turns into a sinus infection. The last time the doctor gave me an antibiotic, he gave me to high of a dosage and it actually gave me a c-diff infection. (If you don't know what that is, look it up. It's horrid.) It was recommended that I don't take those types of antibiotics anymore. So I was looking for some suggestions before I went back to the doctor.

The neti pot helped temporarily, but I had to go see a doctor and I did get amoxicillin and Flonase, which is in a different family of antibiotics than what I was given before. I think I'm actually going to go to an Ear, Nose, Throat specialist and try and see why I get this shit twice a year instead of just getting drugs when I get sick.

  • 3 weeks later...
Going in for a CAT scan on my sinus' next Monday.

They said I might be a candidate for Balloon Sinuplasty. Looks fun.

Holy shit man that's nuts! Good luck with that!

I like how when they say, "The balloon is gently inflated" it shows cracks into the bones haha...

Have fun!

That's fucking disguisting.

Mike: Run a shower as hot you can and brush your teeth/gargle scope in the shower. The combination of steam and mentholatum will temporarily open up your sinuses. Feels awesome. Just be sure to use the strong mint mouthwash, not the burn-free cool mint stuff. But of course that's just a temp fix. Only an antibiotic will get rid of infection.
