Kill Rock Stars will be re-releasing their namesake comp:

VARIOUS ARTISTS Kill Rock Stars LP

Twenty years ago, yes T-W-E-N-T-Y, Slim Moon formed the fiercely independent label Kill Rock Stars and released a comp of the same name. It was a silkscreened, limited edition LP and featured bands that had either played the International Pop Underground Convention or who were from Olympia. This included bands that were already successful (Nirvana, The Melvins) mixed in with bands that were about to affect pop culture at large (Bikini Kill, Bratmobile) as well as bands that were to help define the underground scene for the next two decades (Unwound, The Nation of Ulysses, Mecca Normal). Kill Rock Stars is a vital document of an important era in independent music. We would like to both celebrate our anniversary and recognize the vital role record stores have played in our existence by offering 2000 limited edition LPs with silkscreened, hand-numbered covers just for Record Store Day 2011.

The physical version of the new Republic Tigers EP will be an RSD exclusive, as will a 7-inch. From the inbox:

Chop Shop Records’ experimental indie pop band The Republic Tigers will release a much-awaited 4-song EP, “NO LAND’S MAN,” on April 16, their first release since their 2008 debut album, “KEEP COLOR.”

Self-produced and recorded in the band’s hometown of Kansas City, MO, “NO LAND’S MAN” includes three new songs, plus “The Nerve (Nervous Dancing),” an uptempo reworking of the song “The Nerve” from “KEEP COLOR.” (Tracklisting attached.)

“NO LAND’S MAN” will be available exclusively at independent record stores in celebration of Record Store Day on April 16. The digital configuration of the EP will be available the following Tuesday, April 19 at all online retailers.

In addition to the EP, the band will release a colored vinyl 7” piece featuring “Merrymake It With Me,” the first track on the EP, and “Whale Fight,” an exclusive b-side.

Just talked with a friend who was out in Arizona for the Association of Independent Music Stores conference, where they talked about some of the releases.

Right now, about 300 releases are targeted for RSD (which is in line with last year).

Things he could remember:

REM 7"

Soundgarden 7"

Built to Spill 7"

Flaming Lips Box is limited to 5000 copies

Blitzen Trapper 7"

Lots of cool stuff from both Sub Pop and Matador

One thing he said to look out for was a Daft Punk 12" featuring 2 songs from the Tron soundtrack and 2 unreleased tracks. Supposed to be really nice packaging, vinyl will be glow in the dark and look like the tron disc (similar to the 12" released for the video game apparently). Limited to around 450/500 copies though, so it will go fast.

We'll see what else gets announced, but sounds like we have a shitload of releases to wade through again.

Secondly, an exclusive split 7" vinyl single of the ZZ Top classic, "Just Got Paid," with Mastodon's version on one side backed with the original ZZ Top version on the flip, housed in a clear plastic slipcase. Mastodon's version of the track originally appeared on the album, Covered, A Revolution In Sound, commemorating 50 years of Warner Bros. Records.

Press release from Vanguard Records about RSD:

Last year, Vanguard Records caused a sensation by releasing on vinyl five classic titles from their vaults on Record Store Day. Immediately afterwards, Vanguard and Record Store Day asked fans to vote on www.recordstoreday.com for the five classic titles to be reissued on Record Store Day 2011. These five titles are limited to 1000, and available EXCLUSIVELY at participating independently owned record stores on Record Store Day 2011, Saturday, April 16:

Skip James Today! Newly re-mastered from the original tapes, this classic 1965 album ranks alongside the best of the period, with AllMusic declaring that James "might have made the best music of anyone who resurfaced during the mid-'60s... certainly, there weren't many albums made during that time as good as this one."

John Hammond So Many Roads Newly re-mastered from the original tapes, this classic 1965 album features a stellar supporting cast including Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Mike Bloomfield, and Charlie Musselwhite.

Mississippi John Hurt The Immortal Newly re-mastered from the original tapes, this classic 1967 album was dubbed "one of the best albums of country blues ever recorded" by AllMusic.

John Fahey Requia (and Other Compositions for Guitar Solo) Newly re-mastered from the original tapes, this classic 1967 album stands as one of the most innovative "folk" recordings of the period, with the master guitar player exploring musique concrete and tape collage techniques alongside his signature blues derivations.

Country Joe & the Fish Electric Music for the Mind and Body Newly re-mastered, this classic 1967 album was dubbed by AllMusic "their most joyous and cohesive statement and one of the most important and enduring documents of the psychedelic era, the band's swirl of distorted guitar and organ at its most inventive."

In addition to these releases exclusively available to Record Store Day participating stores, Vanguard and Sugar Hill will be releasing additional titles to indie record stores on Record Store Day before making them available to other retailers at a later date. Those include vinyl reissues of Nickel Creek’s Nickel Creek, This Side and Why Should The Fire Die? albums and a Vanguard compilation album called Follow Me Down: Vanguard’s Lost Psychedelic Era (1966 –1970), which marks the first hand-selected foray into Vanguard’s archives for “lost” records and 45s.

Might as well just order it now then if interested. They've still got them in stock. I picked it up awhile ago, it's a nice album.
