piaptk
Hello, I've recently started offering lathe cut records through http://www.LatheCuts.com. I can make them out of clear polycarbonate plastic squares, laserdiscs, picnic plates, mirrors, etc. My minimum is 20. These are intended to be playable art pieces. They do not sound as good as a pressed record, but are totally listenable. Somewhere between the romanticized click and pop of a dusty record to a light, but constant white noise hiss. Loud, active music covers up a lot of it, drone or soft music has more noise present. Please check http://www.LatheCuts.com for prices and options. More options to come (including round records, if that is your thing). Thanks! daegor

necroscope
I've had two orders and been happy with them. I think the quality is a bit higher than other lathe cut places I've tried.
AlexH.
Just posting to say I love PIAPTK. One of the coolest labels around. I have one of the Salesman laserdiscs and it sounds great.
billya
How bad is the noise on acoustic recordings?
piaptk
There is noise... sounds like a dusty record. pops and clicks.. The louder/fuller the sound, the less you notice. Really droney, quiet stuff shows the noise a little more. I'm going to put up some sound samples soon.

piaptk
My sound quality has been improving a LOT. I'm exclusively doing clear, square plastic now. 5", 7", and 8". Very quick turn time. I can also do semi flexis (that you can cut with scissors) and picture discs. daegor and nothingnatural
daegor
What are the time limits on those sizes? Prices for various options?
kouka
Sorry, but due to the harshness of the frequencies, and the fragility of our cutting heads, we can no longer cut Harsh Noise or Grindcore records. this is the best quote I have ever read. nothingnatural and piaptk

yocaseycasey
daegor, if you want a sample, I have a couple copies of the Flanny single on a mirror that I purchased. The shit sounds GREAT for being a lathe cut mirror.
piaptk
The plastic I'm cutting on now sounds WAY better than the mirrors. I'll have some sound samples up realtively soon... just gotta hook my laptop up to my turntable,....
