I find it amazing how many folks don't know you shouldn't cut into a procession

I did this by accident once. I was waiting at a red light on Route 1 (v big highway) where there was a procession going across the highway. when the light changed the people in the procession continued to go through the red light, until 1 person stopped. so I went. At first I didn't know why these cars kept illegally crossing the road (I didn't see the hearse) until after the fact and I thought that it was prob a procession.

What is the protocol with a situation like that? Route 1 is a monster of a roadway. If I were in a procession I don't think I'd want to chance it crossing on a red light.

pull up slowly to the intersection, and proceed as long as someone isn't attempting to fly through, which sounds like what happened to Bruce

I've only had this happen to a procession I was attending, once.  I was the one that pulled up in front of the car that was going to cut the procession in half.  Got out of my car and just stood there, looking at the young woman.  Police pulled up, told me 'they had this', and explained to the young lady why she was getting a ticket.  Yes, she got a ticket.

If you are coming upon a procession, they have the right-of-way, not you.  It's that simple.  You can be fined for interruption in almost every state, I believe.  Just pull over to the side, if you can.  If you need to cross a street, wait.

When it rains, it pours.

Last night my brother slammed his car into a tree. He was on his way home from work. This happened just outside of the guardhouse of our community. He was surely speeding and claims a cat or animal darted in front of the car and he swerved right to avoid hitting and instead hopped the curb and hit a tree. Right down the center front of the car. It's easily a total loss. He got taken my EMS to the hospital and nothing broken but plenty of bruises.

And to add insult to injury, I had my "meeting" with my manager today. The action plan and disciplinary write up I'm on haven't progressed to show considerable improvement. Not only am I deeper in a hole, but going to the next step of disciplinary action. Which means that if I don't improve to the perfection they unrealistically expect in 30 days or so, I'll have the noose around my neck and essentially be let go after that.

Oh. And my mother has been having some heart-related health issues. It's fuckin' scary as my grandmother passed from similar issues. Of course last night's ordeal with my brother's crash didn't help and the breakdown she had.

Juan's life is just peachy.

/ my woes.

The law actually differs state to state. Here in Oregon, if there is going to be a procession you must have police escorts, and they stop traffic so the procession can pass through.

If you are processing without escorts here (illegal) then you must obey all rules of the road, so if you get split up, tough cookies.

Positive vibes to you. Good to hear bruises are all he is dealing with, but sorry about your mom's health issues. I understand worrying about your parents, I lost my dad about 10 years ago on the 22nd of this month, and watching my mom getting older alone isn't easy. Best of luck with the job, employers can always seem to find a way to take any effort and turn it against you like when you get a B on a report card but are told "well you can get an A"...For some nothing is ever enough

Regardless of the reasons your brother crashed, at least he was ok. The work thing sounds super shitty, almost like they have already made up their mind on you, which is terrible. Heart problems are scary, and I hope your mother's is not that bad and can be treated fine. As we say, we're here for you buddy. Sorry about the short response, work is crazy today and I don't want to just ignore this, so offering a short response for now.

Best of luck with all that shit.  I know you've been dealing with a lot with your job for quite a while so I just hope things settle down for you soon.

I don't mean to steal Juhuluds thunder about complaining about jobs but I can't help myself.  I could really use some input from anonymous people on the internet.  I can't really talk to people I know about it because I need to keep things as vague as possible.

So here goes, briefly.

Most of y'all know I took a tiny chunk off my finger including a little bone.  At what point do you start thinking about getting a Workers Comp Attorney?  Now I haven't had any intention of doing so and also had no intention on trying to get a settlement for what happened but my employer has been less than awesome in dealing with this.  They've been scheduling me on jobs that often require two hands to engage the machine, this is while I'm one hand only work.  There has been more stuff than that but I'm trying to keep things as vague as possible.

Since the injury happened I've been trying to be as accomodating as possible and I feel bad about.  I made a bad decision.  I put my hand where I shouldn't have.  My poor decision making is why I am missing a chunk of my finger.  In my meeting with the OSHA rep I was as honest as possible about things, but I still tried to skew the conversation heavily towards it being all on me.  I omitted a few facts that would be pretty bad for my company.  The biggest of which being when this machine was being installed the rep from the company who sold it brought up that the guard (where I got my had caught) wouldn't in any way pass OSHA standards, but as long as you guys oked it thats all that mattered.  This was with the guy responsible for purchasing it right there.

So there you have the very brief summary of what I'm dealing with.  I wanted to question is getting a Workers Comp Attorney a good idea.  I mainly want to make sure that my employer doesn't try and refuse paying for the medical bills.  As I said earlier I didn't plan on trying to get a settlement out of this.  l am a big believer in taking personal responsibility for your actions, I just don't want to end up having that being the reason I end up with 5 grand in medical bills.

If there was something that they tried to slip under the radar I see no reason to not get compensation.

Exactly. It's important to take responsibility for your own actions, but ending up with a 5k debt by concealing someone else's misdemeanor goes way beyond that.

When random users talk shit to me like I'm not a real person then tell Juan that I'm being mean once I respond:

Seems like there's been a lot of shit talking to/about the mods from new users lately. (says the guy who as a new user did just that).

I got yo back, son! :)

So literally minutes before my girlfriend put her grandfather in the ground she got a call that she lost her job. That job was like 3/4 of our income. They are scrambling to find a way to keep her but probably can't. She was employed through a temp agency, like all their employees. It's incredibly difficult and rare for someone to get "hired" but it was full time and fairly stable. Her temp agency terminated their contract with the company this morning with zero warning. Her and a handful of other employees got basically fired because of this. Like her HR rep just got an email this morning like "These people no longer work for you." It's a gigantic clusterfuck. Again, she found this out as we were waiting for them to set the casket up at the grave.

I don't know if I mentioned it but a couple days ago we signed a lease for a beautiful new apartment. We have been furniture shopping and were all set to drop several thousand on having an amazing living room. Everything was going to be awesome. Now we can no longer actually afford the apartment we just entered into a contract for.

Luckily she's got another, part time, job but it's still not enough. We went from being so close to safety and security in a great new apartment to being completely fucked.

I want us all to catch a break. I went to traffic court this morning and was talked to like a child before being charged $100 after totaling my car and not causing damage to anyone else's vehicle. Nothing like being damn near 40 and being berated about my lack of faith, which has so damn much to do with a ticket for following too closely... ahh the south, judge, preacher, same damn thing...

Dude, that's some terrible news. Those temp agencies sure know how to fuck people over. I hope something good pops up for the two of you super soon. You deserve a badass living room! Sending good vibes your way.
