I finally got around to checking out Digging Up The Marrow, mostly because I am hooked on Holliston and wanted more Adam Green stuff to watch. It was ok, I didn't enjoy it as much as Frozen or Hatchet. Ray Wise didn't carry the role as strong as he normally would. The monster effects looked great, I thought that the final half hour of the movie was the best.

Tomorrow night I am finally going to see Krampus. I also just got the latest Scream Factory release The Car, so that will be watched at some point this week.

Two older-ish movies I watched recently:

The Canal: We'll made and good acting, but wholly predictable. I like creepy, subtle, shadow monster stuff. A solid B-

Martyrs: Yeah, I know, "where you been, dummy?" When this came out I walked into a friend's house while they had it on so I didn't watch it because I didn't want to start in the middle. Then I ended up watching the last 10 minutes, figured I had seen the (admittedly amazing) reveal and assumed the rest was torture porn. I don't deal with that so I wrote it off, figuring I got the jist of it. Ended up watching it this weekend and was happy to see it's not really torture porn at all. Pretty brutal for sure, but no Hostel or that shit. TL;DR: Great movie, A-. Interested to see how the American version fucks it up.

Very sad to find out that Angus Scrimm, a.k.a. the "Tall Man" from the Phantasm films has passed away.

R.I.P. :(

Very sad news, 2016 seems like it will be a big year for Phantasm. The new 4K restoration of the original film is coming out, as well as Ravager. It's a shame that Angus won't be able to be a part of it.

Lots of new horror flicks watched over the last week or so.

The Green Inferno- I'm not sure why I continue to subject myself to Eli Roth's body of work; I suppose I'm still hoping for something as fantastic as Cabin Fever to come out.  Overall, just another group of people lost amongst savages flick with poor character development, poor dialogue and a poor sense of awareness of how tired and stale it is.  I definitely don't recommend.

Southbound- If you dig anthology horror (V/H/S, Trick r' Treat), you would probably dig this.  I'm not super huge into said genre, because you don't have enough time to develop a relationship with the characters.  Southbound had a few decent moments; but overall, it just seemed a bit bland.

The Purge: Anarchy- I've always loved the premise of the original Purge, though don't like the delivery.  Some really great tense moments, but still falls a bit short.

Nina Forever- By far, one of the most original concepts for a horror flick.  Again, the delivery falls a bit short and I wouldn't really recommend a viewing unless you're also intrigued with the premise.

Deadpool- Yeah, I'm gonna lump this into the genre, based solely on the fact that the antagonist declares it a horror movie and the immense amount of violence.  I'm sure that anyone that has seen this fully endorses it, based on the 8.8 IMDB rating it's received.  I want to watch this 100 times.

Just started the Martyrs remake about 5 minutes ago.  I didn't dig the original, but I'm running out of horror to watch.

Oof... How was it? The original is probably in my top 3, if not favorite horror film ever. I can't imagine the remake is enjoyable at all.

Anyways, gonna be going to see The VVitch this Friday! Really, really excited.

Well, like I said before, I didn't like the original Martyrs because it seemed like an excuse to show gratuitous amounts of torture and violence to women for no reason.  I watched the remake after reading that it's less vulgar and more character driven.  It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great.

I loved The VVitch! Like Blade said, the atmosphere was incredible. It looked amazing as well and the acting was on point. Pretty damn creepy at moments. Also, that fucking score. I hope it gets pressed soon.

EDIT: just found out its getting pressed and is coming out in May! Preordered so fast.
