It would be nice to be able to follow a topic but only be notified if a certain user posts (ie, you might want to know info posted by a label but not necessarily 10 people posted "got my record today"). It'd be nice to do the whole @username to notify that user of your comment or quote towards them. Or just be notified of a quote I guess.
