chadmcclung
Are there any recommendable iOS apps available that amp up your iTunes music? Like a headphone amp app or DAC-type app?

chadmcclung
LOL. As much as I hate animated GIFs, that made me laugh. What I'm looking for is an iOS app that makes my iTunes library sound better. An app with adjustable EQs or an app that does something similar to what a headphone amp does. Is there anything like that out there that you could recommend? I'm trying to get better sound out of my portable/digital music without breaking the bank or having to carry a bunch of additional crap. I'm using an iPhone 4S with the stock earbuds at the moment. However, I'll soon purchase new, better IEMs and over the ear headphones.
slinch
Unfortunately only hardware will determine sound quality, not software.* Adjusting the EQ will not give you better sound, it will just mask the parts that are shitty make it more to your liking. *It does depend on the playback software to a certain degree, but it isn't noticeable on an iphone output. To enjoy the suble benefits one needs a higher quality system, in which case I strongly advise using Audirvana (OSX) or foobar2000 (Windows) instead of iTunes. I'll research them a bit more closely. But, I want something for on-the-go. I checked a few threads over on Head Fi and came across a few EQ apps and headphone-optimizing apps. Interesting.http://www.head-fi.org/newsearch?search=App
homework
Something on the go? What bitrate are the files of your songs, and which brand of headphones do you use?
swemoll
The DAC inside of your iPhone is shitty. There's not a whole lot to be done to counter-act its poor job of reproducing music. And the speakers...oh god. But if you just want it louder, hook up to some sort of amplification. There's no reason to further distort those shitty little speakers. homework
chadmcclung
Something on the go? What bitrate are the files of your songs, and which brand of headphones do you use? My digital music is mostly Apple lossless and I play them through an iPhone 4S with stock earbuds. However, I'll soon be buying Monoprice 8323 and 9397. I listen through headphones mostly, not so much the iPhone speakers. I've checked out a few EQ apps, but can tell only a marginal difference with the Apple earbuds. swemoll
Those stock earbuds are terrrrrrible. Just get the headphones you mentioned and be content. chadmcclung

chadmcclung
Those headphones may look sleek and nice, but are absolutely awful. Agreed. That's why I'm looking for a quality EQ app - to get me through until I've saved enough for a new set of cans.

The other two look pretty interesting. I'll check out BBE right away. Thanx for the leads.

tides
Equalizer by Audioforge Labs is also a great app for what you're looking for. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/equalizer/id321267949?mt=

chadmcclung
Since I'm a cheap bastard, I've been testing only the free apps. So far, Accudio is my fav. I don't have my new cans yet and Accudio really makes the stock Apple ear buds sound respectable. Next up would be the Denon app. Nice control of equalizer and you can easily create playlists. taylo234
Get a pair of Klipsch S4's and you wont really need an EQ honestly. One thing I miss about my android phone was this app called "Power Amp". Seriously, the EQ it came with worked wonders. There has been talk about them putting one out on iOS.
chadmcclung
Got my new headphones (Monoprice 8323 and 9397) so I'm going to listen to music flat (no equalizer apps) to see what I'm dealing with. Then, once they're burned in, we'll see what I need, if anything.
firefoxUSSR
The iPhone is a poor sounding audio player blah blah blah.... If no one else mentioned it under settings app>ipod> there's an equalizer. It's free and part of iOS.
