Short Story:

The Cure - Kiss Me x3

Porno for Pyros - S/t (very nice tie-dye record)

Titus Andronicus - RSD

At The Drive-In - Relationship of Command

Deep Purple/Type O Negative - Highway Star

Doors/X - Soul Kitchen

South Park - San Diego

Uncluded- Delicate Cycle

Demosexual - 7"

everything i wanted plus more. much more than i wanted to spend.

Long Story:

I called the night before to make sure that all the records i wanted were gonna be there. They were cool and told me how many of each one they had. I got to Schoolkids around 7am, about an hour before it opened. There were about 30 people in line ahead of me. Started up conversations with "So, what are you here to get?" and that pretty much kept the dialog going for the next hour. Owner came out and explained the rules: you're in line, stay in line from here to the aisles to the cash register, don't cut ahead, wait and be patient. Only 1 copy per person. He's a great guy, everyone here loves that he owns the store now. Everything for RSD was down the middle aisle in alphabetical order; 12", 7", dvd's, swag,

Schoolkids in Raleigh?

Biggest surprise of the releases for me is Between The Buried And Me - Anatomy of... I hadn't planned on getting it, but when I saw it sitting on the shelf all by itself with the other leftovers I grabbed it. I finally opened it last night and put it on. I had forgotten that it was a covers album, so I was cautious when I put it on, but I really enjoyed a lot of the covers. they did a really great job on a lot of them. I guess it helps that I know most of the originals very well, but even the songs I didn't know I enjoyed. Some of them were very close to the originals but others strayed a bit, but I never felt like they were trying to hard to either emulate the original or completely rewrite the arrangement either. The cool packaging was also a bonus.

I didn't buy anything this year. I need to cut back on my record spending, so I didn't go out this weekend. I do have a wish list with Strictly Discs for 7 records. If I get them, great. If not, it's more money in my pocket. Really surprised I've began to develop a resolve when it comes to frivolous spending on records. I've begun to pick and choose what I buy more wisely.

That has been me for the most part. Especially for the RSD releases themselves. I thought about getting the Mumford 10", Now, Now - Neighbors, and Lonely Island 7" but then realized I probably wouldnt even listen to them that much. A lot of inflated prices helped to deter me as well.

pretty small list this year:

straylight run - prepare to be wrong from bullmoose

vitamin string quartet performs sigur ros from 1234 go records

sigur ros - agaetis byrjun (probably not the RSD version, but i don't think there's a difference)

maybe these two as well:

funeral for a friend - casually dressed (assuming my amazon order goes through)

drive OST picture disc (assuming bullmoose gets their copies in)

Those are some weird prices. Like, weird as in weirdly specific.

Update to this story about annoying guy at fingerprints:

So I'm looking at the record store's instagram and this annoying guy is commenting on every single fingerprints photo.

Basically what happened is:

1. Guy waits since 10pm day before for DMB box set.

2. Guy finds out owner is auctioning box set for charity (silent auction style).

3. Guy is pissed off. Proceeds to yell at owner and accuse him of many things.

4. Guy ends up place a bid roughly ~$200.

5. Guy ends up winning the auction.

6. Guy is denied the item as his winning bid is not accepted and is told by manager (owner?) to fuck off.

Good job Fingerprints. You did good. You did good.

Update: Apparently this guy has no life and has created an instagram account intended to hound Fingerprints.

Enjoy!

I had to work in the morning and didn't get in to Amoeba (SF) until noon, ended up with:

Mumford - Live at Bull Moose

Junip - Junip (was supposed to be colored vinyl but is plain black)

Cure - Kiss Me (I was told they were sold out of it but looked below the shelves where they put the back stock and found a stack of like 10 of them...told the guy working and he started handed them out in minutes)

Was bummed I couldn't find Sigur Ros but ended up buying it online from a shop in the UK (pretty sure it's not the RSD version but I don't care)

Not 100%, but I'm pretty sure those UK repressses are the exact same thing as the US RSD releases. There was really nothing fancy about the US release other than an RSD sticker and a sticker that said "limited to 1000 pressing". Anyone out there that has the uk release please post a few pics.

Went to Grimey's and only managed to get the Paramore 7". They made two separate lines, one for the normal RSD releases and one for the Paramore meet and greet, and I was more focused on the meet and greet/acoustic performance. Talk about crazy lines. There were hundreds of people in line for RSD and about 60 for Paramore before the store opened at 10AM.

Ended up getting the Best Coast 7" later. Not much I wanted this year.
