Pro-ject Acryl-It platter upgrade to debut carbon, is it worth it?

I like the look and it's great not having to deal with the felt mat, but I can't say I experienced a sound improvement like some claim. Static is definitely less but not non-existent. It also introduced a new problem in that using the anti-static brush on some LP's that aren't 100% flat cause the record to stop rotating while the platter continues to rotate... it makes me cringe to think there could be something grinding into the underside of the record when that happens. For the record (no pun intended) it happens when just holding the brush on the vinyl (not adding pressure).

Just put the slipmat back on to clean the record real quick?

That looks fucking beautiful. Exactly what I think of when I imagine doing this to my setup. Platter alone is worth the $100 if you can make it look like this it seems, except for the few claims of sound quality loss! Anyone have anymore?

Who's claiming sound quality loss?

Loss from the platter?  or from stringing it up with stupid christmas lights?

Actually, sound quality and static dispersal were the reasons I bought the platter. I actually had to go completely flat from a more pronounced bass setting on my EQ. So the platter did make a big difference in my set up.

Sound quality loss when using an acrylic platter will be from doing something wrong like using a mat with it, that or some other example of a LUI error

A record clamp would solve that spinning issue.

Not a fan of those lights either. They look tacky to me.

I have a feeling some are using the acrylic just so they can light it up with LEDs, and don't really care about the end results as far as sound goes.

Some people buy a sports car to drive around in a big city. *shrugs*

Had my platter for 3-4 years now? Have never regretted it, awesome but not a necessary upgrade if you can't afford it. I just grabbed the Speedbox and I'm still in the habit of going to the manual switch...
