What a weekend. They're a powerhouse. I really enjoyed seeing them. When I saw them it was with Surfer Blood, where I got both of their records signed. Surfer Blood was AWFUL though. I really dug them any other time I saw them, but it was a small crowd for a show they booked right before they kind of blew up with their first album and the singer was such. a dick. I looooove Jeff Mangum, stood next to him for a long time at an Elephant 6 Christmas show, wasn't 100% sure it was him though so I didn't talk to him. Then he got up on stage and sang with everyone for a few songs. (this was well before he started touring again and was still pretty reclusive, so it was a real treat to see him perform.) Got it signed by Bobb Bruno of Besty because he was sitting at the merch table, but I couldn't track down Bethany or any of the Wavves dudes. I do have a CD of They Might Be Giants - The Else signed by John Linnell somewhere in my parents' house. I happened to be the first person at the merch table after the show, and bought it without realizing it had already been opened and signed. Talk about a pleasant surprise. The Kings of Convenience one is probably my greatest get though... met them outside the Iota in Arlington, VA way back in the day. Oh, and Ryan Adams' Heartbreaker, signed by Ryan after he was holding the door for us as we left a restaurant. Yes, I was that guy. But the fact that I had it on me at all is still pretty awesome...
