Stoner/ Doom Metal Discussion Thread

That's some quick shipping with Elder. Have yet to get mine but haven't been home to see any notifications either. Very stoked to have grabbed a copy. Surprisingly, still available at Stickman, for anyone yet to grab one. For all you guys though, it's aother import unfortunately

Southern Lord is having a sale until the end of August, some good stuff for cheap.

Thanks. Completely missed that for some reason.

Also hells headbangers is doing 20% off a bunch of stuff currently. One that caught my eye was both egypt's records. The self titled was sold out for a while and is now back for 11 bucks.

Snagged that S/T Egypt finally.  Been trying to hold out for an original pressing, but for $11 I can't say no

Sweat Lodge streaming in full, die hard version drops today

I thought the drop was last week. I do want it, but the $30 tag says no. Even the black is $20. Then you have a band that can release a colored record with an intricate sleeve design and sell it for only $12 - http://boards.vinylcollective.com/topic/114532-have-an-appreciation-for-unique-packaging-check-our-new-lp-out/  They're a hardcore band. I'm just wondering why, once again, do all of the stoner doom records cost so much? Are we the problem because we're buying them?

Yeah...can't do it. I think it'll be downloads for me from here on out unless it's something I find really original or novel, or it it's a band I've already been collecting.

This doesn't just go for doom releases either. I'm just getting tired of paying so damn much for inconvenience. 12 years of collecting, and this is how it ends. ::sigh::

I haven't lost the bug. I still like spinning a record and staring at the record cover and lyric sheet. I'm with ya with moving a little more towards downloads. I'm running out of room. Actually, I have already run out of room. I was thinking the other day about how I listen to The National a lot, but it's usually in my car. So, did I really need to buy most of their releases on vinyl? Probably not. Either way, I need to put more thought into these purchases. Nowadays, if I buy three to four doom records I have just dropped at least $100. That's a lot of frickin' money!

Bongripper is the band that got me into this genre. "Hippie Killer" was my first piece of stoner/doom wax. I sort of worked my way backwards from there, to Sleep, then Black Sabbath and Pentagram eventually.

I still think they are a great band, and my Bongripper collection is one of my prized possessions, but there are bands who do it much better.

I will agree that they are incredible live.
