Recording albums to reel is badass. Completely different from cassette tapes. I mean just look at Sound City. ;)

I can't even imagine reels becoming a common format like records. That would be so odd. Haha. And probably pretty expensive. But they are pretty badass.

I just picked up a reel to reel, is there any major benefit of recording records to tape? (other than ease of playback etc.)

Watter > Watered.  Glad we're getting a new full length from the former this year.

I dig Watter, although it's not something I can listen to often.  I actually sold my vinyl copy of their first a while back.  But I'll for sure check out new stuff from them.

One of these days, at the very least I'll update that first post with a list of every band mentioned in here.  But today is not that day.  So I apologize if this band has been mentioned before.  I tried doing a search and didn't come up with anything.

But after seeing Dunk post about them, I checked out The Best Pessimist.  A perfect mix of This Patch of Sky & The American Dollar in my opinion.

Track 8 finds them covering "Quiet" by This Will Destroy You lol.  But this is very enjoyable stuff!

Damn, Gumbo good ear haha.  I didn't even pick up on that.  But I literally just listened to both songs back to back.  No wonder I enjoyed that song so much!

It's funny because apparently you aren't the first to pick up on that.

I wonder if anyone has ever asked The Best Pessimist about that.

Hopefully they acknowledge it somewhere that it's essentially a cover.  I'll admit, it's a really good cover and definitely has a few tweaks to it that I enjoy.  But no way they can claim that as an original song.

This reminds me of something interesting I always wanted another opinion on.  Back when we all did our ratings of albums we thought were "10s", "9s", "8s", etc, I picked this album as my "1" rating citing that it was 100% a Cloudkicker ripoff that the artist didn't acknowledge at all.  I know this because a review was posted here when it came out (http://postrockstar.com/2014/04/28/surrounded-by-infantry-signals-noises/) and it's what led me to check out.  I had made a critical post about it being a ripoff on that page (which I can see the comments are no longer there) and the artist chimed in saying "He was influenced by CK but believed his songs were original", which was the biggest load of crap I had ever heard.  If anyone that is familiar enough with Cloudkicker to pick up on the similarities is bored, check out this album and let me know what you think...

Holy shit. I didn't even make it that far, but the tone is eerily similar, the bass comes in just like CK, the artists uses the same type of picking.

Haha yeah man, someone on the Youtube page mentioned it so i skipped to that song and was like "woahhhhh" haha.  It's got a different character/atmosphere in some parts, but it's literally the same song.

I've been meaning to post about this, because I keep coming up with more instances of post-rock bands stealing licks from other people.  Viva Belgrado has one song that has the same chords as "A Gallant Gentleman" by We Lost The Sea, as well as one song that uses what is essentially the main melody of "Loft" by Caspian.  Pray For Sound also has a song on Dreamer that is very similar to "Loft" as well.

Derek posted that one piece about Lights & Motion stealing an EITS lick...   I had others too, I wish I had written them all down because I've been noticing a ton more lately.

In other news.....   We Lost The Sea is apparently re-pressing everything!  TBD on dates and whatnot, but I asked them about whether they'll still have copies of Crimea on vinyl at Dunk, because the mentioned to someone else that they would, but they only have 7 copies left on Bandcamp currently for that.

They said they'll announce it all when it's ready, but this is good news!!!

I hope We Lost The Sea still has the White longsleeve come birthday time; they have the black at 1000 Arms, but I have enough black band T's. I love sleeve lettering. Either that of CoL SATH longsleeve from their site looks really cool.

Evan has to report how The End Of The Ocean/Nothing concert is/was.

End of the Ocean just finished up.  Here comes the controversy...

They are as good as any band live.  Including Caspian.  They are fucking perfect.  It's astounding how much better they are live than recorded.  It's honestly like listening to a completely different band.  They played 5 songs.  3 from Pacific/Altlantic, one from In Excelsis, 1 new one.  The new one was fantastic.  Pretty standard fare from them, but it's so good live.  Wall of sound rating:  100.  I hope to God their new album can come closer to capturing their live sound.

This doesn't surprise me at all....   the live videos i've watched show them to have much more dynamic range than evidenced in their studio recordings.

Also, did they have merch?  I saw a picture with new shirts...  this band should be huge, if they would just put more time into it!
