  1. Here's the official announcement dealie:

We are beyond excited to announce that Reckless Records has teamed up with Three Floyds Brewing for an exclusive rye beer for Record Store Day 2012!!

It's a rye pale ale called "Rye'd Da Lightning" featuring label artwork by the talented horror/gore artist PUTRID. The beer will be available exclusively at the Bottom Lounge on the night of Record Store Day. SWEET COBRA, CHICAGO THRASH ENSEMBLE, PARTY DOWNERS & more TBA will be performing.

We'll be announcing more details shortly.

  2. Andrew - no problemo. You just came in and bought it. I didn't really do anything but get it there! Yeah, there's nothing hidden or stashed away or whatever other conspiracy theories people sometimes have. Everything is for sale!

I didn't even buy anything for myself! All of the records I was interested in I already had: Soilent, Coalesce, DEP.

Moonbeams - thanks! Our mailorder guy is the best.

  3. FYI, I wasn't implying that your store clerks pre-bought up all of those Ryan Adams records. I was actually commenting that I was just in shock that you guys didn't have any at the store on RSD. You guys seem to be better than the rest in the Chicagoland area about getting the widest variety of records on RSD.

I must also comment that Reckless got their copies of the white vinyl Pink Floyd - 66/67 later than the day of RSD. Instead of selling them off at a markup similar to the going rate on ebay, they decided to hold onto them all for RSD Black Friday. Class move, IMO. I personally love their stores and there is no way that this particular situation is going to prevent me from making Reckless my preferred destination of record store in Chicago.

That Pink Floyd 66/67 was also released months before RSD, and we had it in stock then, too. We all thought that release was a weird RSD release as we'd already had it in stock.

  4. OK, I checked this thread again. What Jencik said.

Dreamover - Third Man never implied anything. That's all in the head of record collectors. They said there was 300 tri-colors. They said 100 were for the TM store. They said 50 were for random mailorders. They said that five stores were getting copies. No one ever said that each store was getting 30 copies. People just assumed all the rest were going to stores.

in the vault and somewhere else they posted 50 random mail order, 100 third man and 150 various independent record stores. Then later, they announced the 5 stores.

Right. Nowhere in there does it imply that the remainders will be divided evenly among the five stores. That was just people jumping to conclusions. Worded poorly? I could see that.

  6. Hey Dave, make sure you put in an order for the RSD release of Phish - Junta. Hopefully I'll be first in line at your store like I was last year to pick it up along with many other releases! Also make sure to try and get the Pollock poster version of Junta which is limited to only 2,500 of the 5,000 copies being made available. Thanks!!!

We'll do our best, as always!

  7. I'm not sure where this "6 copies" thing came from. My guess would just be a confused employee. Maybe there was only six left when someone called?

I was off today but was told that there was no crazy rush for them and they just sold quickly in the first hour or so we were open.

there were five of us in line. at 9:20 the guy let us in (which we were very thankful for) and the five of us checked out. i asked the guy that checked me out, how many they got. he said "we only got six". when i was walking toward the door, a kid was knocking and the other guy working said "there's your six!" and let him in. they did not let anyone else in after that.

Well - I looked at the sales and there was definitely more than six sold, so I have no idea what they were talking about! Whatever! Glad you got one man!

  8. I'm the one that handled the ordering and processing of the tri-colors for Reckless in Chicago at all three stores.

Like the Saddle Creek shop, we only got 10, had a million calls, and they were gone immediately.

    End of story!

So where did the other 4 go?
