Not to dig up a month old (longer) thread, but just picked up the For Emma Forever Ago clear repressing and side B sounds awful with intermittant right channel hissing (just sounds like a dirty record, but cleaning does nothing)... On an album like this it's enough to make me nuts.

Did you ever track this down. I've had this pressing since release, but it's one of my favourites. I see one on Amazon for $99. Honestly like I said, I just bought it on a whim (I live just down the street from Sonic Boom) back in '03 or '04 just because I wanted that album... Had no clue it was this limited or sought after til today. Heck, maybe I ougth to pick up the Barsuk release when it comes just so I can be nice to this '03 one.

The Newbury clear pressing of "For Emma.." i just received sounds just as bad as the black vinyl stories. Horribly sibilant and with a nasty wooshing/brushing noise (as many have reported about for the original presses on Discogs) on Side B. This is the even *quieter* side of course so it becomes an out-of-rhythm instrument on every song arrangement for the album.
But.... it's clear. (sigh)
