  1. Been on a huge David Foster Wallace kick (I read Infinite Jest earlier this summer and it was great)

    Just finished: [image]

(which is utterly mind-blowing the levels of infinity discussed in this book, if anyone is interested in talking about this, I will)

Geoff Rickly from Thursday talks about Wallace quite a bit as being an influence Common Existence record. I been wanting to check him out just not sure what to start with. Shame he died too, pity.

NOT Everything and More, because it's technical and tough. Consider the Lobster is a good start because he truly is a fantastic essayist. I'm sure if you search the internet hard enough you can find some of his essays (he was published in a variety of different magazines, so I'm sure one of them has free archives if you take the time to look).

This would be next if I didn't leave it at a friends house:

    Which means that this:

    or this: [image]

    is next.

I am half putting off The Pale King, because it will enthrall every waking minute of my life til I finish it (as Everything and More did today).

Oh, I also might read some Bakunin essays every now and then in the upcoming week and am also halfway into World's End by Pablo Neruda (but poetry rarely holds my attention for long and this is mostly to aid my Spanish).

  3. just scored these real cheap with buy it now!

    These aren't rare are they?

I'm the seller on those and didn't think they'd move (as is a lot of my low bid BIN stuff) I did see the black go up to $35 but that was only between two bidders.

Oh well, if they were rare, Congrats, you are a collector, I don't feel bad.

  4. Steve O are you really here to annoy the shit out of a second message board?

Seriously?! God, you're such an awful awful person, I hope another homeless person shits in your store.

Oh and the whole preorder thing, he's not the only culprit and I have made myself fully clear on my feelings of people saying "hey look! Album! Yay!" then it doesnt come out for months later.

...it gets worse when they refuse to give you a refund cause you are tired of waiting, thats what really makes a label far from a best.

  5. The biggest thing SH/VC has going for it is that Virgil is fucking great at customer service and the internet. If this was anyone else, including all the people with suggestions, who were taking a beating for their ideas they would snap and start telling people off left and right. The restraint shown by Virgil is remarkable. Even when one of his employees finally snaps under all the internet bullshit, Virgil quickly steps in and puts out the fire.

The fact that this thread wasn't locked and erased last night in a fit of rage is a testament to Virgil as a good guy and a businessman. I would have started taking names, and completely destroyed my business.

I don't think carelessly taking money from people is "good customer service".

If he cared about the customer he'd stop putting up preorders when the band announces they are recording, blech.
