redsox216
Hello all just wanted to get some advice from everyone on where to upgrade first. My parents had a setup from back in the 90's that was collecting dust in the corner before i took it out. It's not all that great, but it gets the job done for now. I currently have: Speakers: Kenwood JL-760 Power Amp: Kenwood KM-106 Control Amp: Kenwood KC-106 Turntable: Marantz TT-4200 Just wondering what you guys see as my greatest weakness out of all those components. Looking to slowly upgrade as time goes by and would like to get the worst out of the way. Thank you in advance!
allenh
Firstly it's all the right price so that earns it a lot of points on the desirability scale but that period of hifi from major manufacturers wasn't great, the fact you have a separate pre and power amps though is a good thing. There's nothing glaringly utter crap in that list so If I had that lot firstly I'd use it for a while to make sure everything is working ok and to see if I liked it or not. To answer your original question and as a guess the order I'd look to upgrade would be turntable first then probably pre amp, speakers and then power amp but as I say if it's all working ok put a better cart in the turntable and spend the money on records
redsox216
Appreciate the response, allenh. I have had this setup since the beginning of the year now. I have basically been doing what you have said in the last line of your response by upgrading the cart and buying many records. I have been looking to upgrade the speakers or the turntable and at least I know where to start. Again, I appreciate the response.
allenh
definitely worth going to a hifi store now and taking a listen to stuff to see what your money will buy you now then as you have a good reference in your head of your system.
