exentix
So about 6 months or so ago I got into vinyl, and picked up a vintage harman kardon 730 twin powered receiver, a music hall usb-1 turntable, and some cerwin vega dx-5 speakers. All was well until about 2 months ago, my receiver turned on, and only had sound from one set of speakers. Figured it would probably need cleaned. Well, a few days later, I turned it back on it and worked. Said screw it, let it go. Well now its acting up again. So I bought a can of De-Oxit, and grabbed my screwdriver. Tore it apart, removed the faceplate, and went to town spraying all the switches, and working them in a few dozen times each. Put it all back together, aaaaaand it still doesn't work right. It still plays music on the left speakers perfectly fine (same side that worked before), but the right side does not. With the balance turned all the way to the left, the right speakers play very faintly, and the left do not at all. Turn the dial at all, and the left speakers take over 100% and no sound is produced on the right side. any suggestions, I'm down to tear this thing back apart and take pics of whatever you need to help you help me. Thanks!
Jlegg
It sounds like the problem is in the amp, but you should start by trouble shooting. Try to switch the speakers (hook right speaker up to left channel, and vice versa), hook another source up to the amp and see what happens, switch the right and left channel lines from your turntable around (plug the red plug into the white socket, white plug to red socket.) If anything at all changes, you should be able to find your problem. I'm not intimately familiar with your amp, but if your TT has a preamp, and the amp has a preamp, try switching which one you use to see if that helps. The only time i have had a similar problem was when I had a blown resistor on my preamp board, but that's pretty far down the diagnostic tree, so check out what I've listed and post back to us.
