nickz123
I got a Technics SL-220 off craigslist last week and it was missing a belt so I took the platter to an audio store and they fit a belt for it. When I got it home and tried it out the pitch was unstable in both 33rpm and 45rpm. The turntable has pitch controls but I can't get it stable. Does it sound like the belt is the problem or is it the turntable? Thanks, -Nick
ronniethebear
Unstable how? You'll have to be more specific.
nickz123
It doesn't spin at a stable speed. There is slight variations in speed and it is making the music sound like crap.
ronniethebear
Well if you got a new belt and it fits correctly, it's probably something to do with the motor that turns the belt.
oakland
I agree. A wrong-sized belt wouldn't make it spin at a variable speed -- it just wouldn't work.
nickz123
So does any one have any advice or is it just junk. It is a nice turntable. Thanks in advance, -Nick
ronniethebear
See if there's a place that services old stereo equipment in your town, or nearby. One of the record shops here sells used turntables and they also work on them. Maybe there's something like that around you.
