So now I'm torn between grabbing a Cambridge 551p, project phono box s or splurging on a tube box s or an older one I'm looking at on eBay. Thoughts? Does anyone have experience with projects tube pre line? I've heard they're great from most sources but a couple people say they're not even a true tube pre they just have a tube buffer.

I know that but have seen people rant and rave about how the ART is better than a lot of preamps over $200. And the features on it over the ProJect units is also attractive, do you have any experience with the ART? The only reason I'm still looking at this one with a $300 max budget would be to upgrade to a nice tube pre in time.

Hey guys I just got myself a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon TT and am looking for a pre amp to pair with it and my KRK Rokit 8's (Powered studio monitors). I'm unsure at what price the sound quality really changes. I'm looking at Pro-Jects range of preamps and have heard good things about most of them and I've also heard the ART DJPreII absolutely rules for the price. I've also been looking into tube preamps and whether its worth it to go that route. So what do you guys think I should do? Go for the ART until I can afford to go over my $300 budget for a tube pre(probably the same time I shop for new speakers) Or go for something seemingly in the middle like a Project Phono Box S?
