  1. It was a really good mix of every album and EP. Oh yeah, and they fucking played Goliath (it bears mentioning again). I've only heard them play it the night of the record release show. Was stoking hardcore. All PIB setlists run together in my head as I've seen them a billion times, but the amount of songs from each album were pretty even. They closed with Memorial Day (they usually do though), I like seeing the stuff from the EPs put into normal rotation now too.

This was also their first show since September apparently.

  2. I really liked it. Some bitch was trying to talk to me during the song ("OH HEY DO I KNOW YOU FROM SOMEWHERE?" "PROBABLY BEcAUSE I'M AT LIKE EVERY PAINT IT BLAcK SHOW EVER AND YOU'VE PROBABLY SEEN ME THERE, NOW STFU I'M TRYING TO LISTEN TO THIS) so I didn't get to take it in as intensely as I'd have liked to.

It sounded more in the vein of Keep Your Heart stuff. Fast and melodic punk stuffs. :)

  3. My boyfriend and I joked about how we need to get the Philly soccer team aligned with a political party much like soccer teams apparently are in Europe.

We were thinking the socialist party.

I also hope that Philly will have it's own breed of soccer hooligans. Our sports fans got a reputation to uphold.

  4. ^ Surprisingly I reacted much better than I thought I would to my camera getting stolen.

    and

HOLY HOLY HOLY HOLY HOLY SHIT.

SERIOUSLY ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS I'VE EVER BEEN TO. RIVALED WITH THE PAINT IT BLAcK REcORD RELEASE SHOWS FOR NEW LEXIcON.*

    cobra Lung was awesome.

    Lighten Up! was awesome.

Algernon cadwallader....well the people that like them thought they were awesome (I'm really ambivalent about them. Sorry. They're ok I guess....meh)

The Loved Ones were amazing and played a new song.

Paint It Black. Oh lordy. I really don't need to discuss how brilliant they are in every way. And they played Goliath. Fuck yeah.

Some guy was filming the whole thing. So I hope there will be video soon online. The house was fucking packed as full as it could get. It was utter chaos and mayhem. Especially during Paint It Black. I had a really good (and safe) vantage point from the stair case. It was hot as fuck. I'm disgusting. My sweat and everyone else's sweat. But godfucking damn was it amazing. Before Algernon's set Andy from PIB announced that he had bought a few cases of beer and then proceeded to hand beer out to everyone in the crowd. I never had a straight-edge boy buy me beer before. It was cool.

And I have Dan Yemin's blessing for my Paint It Black tattoo. I will be getting it within the next couple months. It makes me happy that he approves. I always love talking to him. He really is one of the greatest people in the universe.

*My "c" key doesn't work on my keyboard. I have to command + v the letter c when I type it. I don't feel like having to find a capital c so sorry if my caps look weird.

  5. I'M SO JEALOUS.

Harpoon is one of my most favorite breweries. I definitely back trying any of their 100 Barrels as they are extremely limited. Their Leviathan is also phenom. If you like IPAs at all this is basically an IPA on steroids.

I'm sad to see Philadelphia not being repped at all. We have some mighty fine breweries in these parts.

  6. Didn't eat lunch yet. I don't know what I want.

I'm thinking I'm getting a sandwich of some sort. If class lets out early enough and I'm not super famished I'll walk a few extra blocks for a tasty burrito. If I'm still stuck here I'm getting a sandwich next door.

  7. Oh my goodness. this this a thousand times this. I adore her.

Seriously? I just watched this and all it did was make me think that she's a twat.

And the video at the top of the page is awful and the song is pretty boring.

The only thing I've really enjoyed by her is the video that takes place in a beach house (I think.)

    I don't get it.

Maybe it will help me explain it if you tell me what exactly it is that makes you think she's a twat.

I can tell you what I love about her. I love that's she's bold enough to do her own thing. That she basically embodies in such a ridiculous and over the top way the idea of "celebrity" in today's society. I feel like it's more of a social commentary.

I love that she is more than just a pop singer. I love that she does have the musical chops. She can actually sing. She can play the piano and is able to perform her songs on the instrument. She has a hand in writing and producing her own stuff.

I love that she IS in control of her image. She isn't a record label puppet and she's ballsy enough to do it. I feel like because she's so well received they let it happen. She does say in a lot of interviews that Lady Gaga isn't merely a character. It is very much who she is; ridiculous or not.

Really what it all boils down to is I view Lady Gaga as an entertainer, not just a pop singer. She's the whole package and she does this extremely well. She's one of the few pop artists I'd feel justified in paying a hefty price to see live as I know I wouldn't be disappointed and I'd have one hell of an experience. This woman didn't blow up overnight and pique Michael Jackson's interest for no reason.

EDIT: That said, I can totally understand someone not being all that into her music/sound or her image. I get that completely but I'm not really into when people simply write her off because of that.

  8. ++++++++++++++++ I GOT A NEW JOB!!!!!! Ok, well it's a second job. I still have to work at Starbucks, but I don't have to work there as much. And it's somewhat relevant to what I want to do. It's part retail part graphic design at a neat little store on South St. It definitely seems to suit me better. I got hired on the spot and I start Friday!

++++++++++++++++ TODAY IS MY LAST DAY OF cLASS. AND THEN I GRADUATE NEXT FRIDAY!

+I'm feeling less sick than I have been the past two days.

+ My boyfriend is the bestest.

+ Listening to a Sam cooke live bootleg.

    Just feeling super super posi!

  9. DAN! Nice. I've been wanting to paint a panel to put above a doorway or closet similar to what you did. However because my roommate and I are nerds it's going to look like the police box sign from Doctor Who.

I felt compelled to say that because that's what your project reminded me of. I can't wait to have all this spare time after I graduate to do art for myself and I will have a lot more to contribute to this thread.

I want to post something though. Most recent thing I've done, I posted in the picture thread but this is a spoof of the Jawbreaker shirt. A self portrait I sketched while bored on my lunch break in ballpoint pen colored in Photoshop:

Since that I've had a few people ask me if I'd similar projects for them; the impose them into a popular album cover/band imagery. My next one is going to be for my friend. I'm drawing her in her army gear as the nurse from Enema of the State (Blink-182 is one of her favorite bands). It's double cool because she is a medic.

If these take off I'll keep doing them for people.

  10. I think Gaga is brilliant. I am totally serious.

This performance was one of the edgiest and most disturbing that has been on national television in a long, long time.

I think the whole deal is a great tongue in cheek take on pop music and pop culture.

Also, she can actually play piano and actually contributes to the writing and production or her own music.

Oh my goodness. this this a thousand times this. I adore her.

  11. ..............................I don't.............I don't hate it............ but christ.

I mean....I'm not one of those THEY NEED TO SOUND LIKE THEY DID ON RAR.....I LOVED New Wave......but.........

*sigh* I'm really not sure how I feel about it. I want to say it will grow on me but I'm not sure. I really hate the extreme vocal layering. Musically it isn't bad but the overall sound...sounds nothing like them. I do really like "I Was A Teenage Anarchist," and "High Pressure Low," they stand out to me. But mehhhhhh I was expecting more...I don't know...punch? It's not even grabbing me lyrically. I'll give it some more time before I write it off as an album with a few stand out tracks and everything else is kind of bleh. However I'll still defend this band feverishly. Still one of my favorites.
