  1.

There are two pressings of this; that is unless everyone has been given wrong information. Watertower and MOV are two completely different presses.

MOV: 180g black with 4pg booklet

WT: 140g Black with insert w/liner notes by Nolan

I canceled my BB order and tried ordering from the US Amazon third party seller. We'll see how this goes.

where is this 140g Info coming from?  I haven't seen that anywhere.  Everything Ive seen has all three credits: MOV, WATERTOWER Music, At The Movies   unless someone recently ordered from a new listing that says 140g Black with insert w/liner notes by Nolan from somewhere, those that pre-ordered and are still waiting must be getting the Original MOV one.  Even if you go look at the discogs listing, you can see these logos on the back cover, so they are in some way or another together on this release.

Either way, there are for sure more pressings coming, so no need to worry availability.... it seems....

  2. I was confused, and also annoyed, because I pre-ordered from amazon as well... I checked jpc and hhv at the time, and didn't find a listing, so went with amazon... guess I should have kept checking jpc, I usually prefer either those other places over Amazon.... anyway, I emailed MOV earlier today  to ask about this, and this is their response:

Hallo, I've had a preorder for this vinyl at two separate places that have
delayed the release date to April, however I see online several people with
it in hand, and on the secondary market. My question is was this initial
press delayed, or have you already released it, and are you doing a second press
and/or is someone else other than MOV doing a different press due out in
    April.

Simply, can you say if you released the MOV version on time earlier in
March, and are you doing a second press due out end of April, and if so, is
that press different in any way?

Thank you for info on this, it's a bit confusing with different retailers
having different release dates, my personal order delayed, and seeing copies
already for sale on the secondary market!

Considering, the original has WaterTower Music credited on the back as well as MOV, my guess is that this is the ONLY pressing (though odd if any catalog numbers changed at retail sites), and they did not have enough initial stock to fulfill all their orders.

Those of us still waiting will get the exact same issue it looks like.... we just have to wait until they ship out the next batch....In April it seems.

Sucks some of us are stuck waiting, but pretty sure there is not a different pressing at least....

  3.

ive wondered about these for ages.... part of me has been assuming they are really bootlegs, but I supposed it's possible they are legit, just seems odd that someone would have so many copies of those two albums.

I dont think i ever saw that account selling anything else, which means his 58 feedback is just from Shootenany and Electro Shock (maybe the occasional MC Honky)... not counting that many people probably don't even leave feeback... dat a lot of vinyl-s-es.

of course besides being skeptical, I am jealous...

  4. they to try to figure the value out if you go to the office and dont provide anything :) ive once had a lady standing next to me who wanted to pick up a record for her son. it was part of a subscription or something so she had no invoice or anything. the customs people looked the record up on ebay where it was up for some insane amount and they were just like "oh well, thats the value then!"

ive had that happen to a friend... also, I was watching one of those ridiculous shows where they follow various 'authorities' around (customs workers, highway cops, market security, flea market organizers and so forth) They were showing people at the Post where items intercepted by customs are picked up. They made a guy open his package and when he didn't provide an invoice, they showed the clerk head to the back and get on ebay to figure out what to charge him.  Granted, half these shows are fake and reenactments, but I'm pretty sure this segment was one of the real ones.   I've always wondered what one could do to challenge them if they come up with some outrageous charge...

again, I think it should be relatively easy to get an invoice..  but in the case of the subscription vinyl mentioned above, there might not be an invoice or if there is it may say $0.00 or something... then what.  Tricky Business, and of course The Man is going to get his in the end...

i've always worried about when my family sends me anything, what if they try to charge duty for the candy and food they send over, or make themselves?  what if I have them grab a record out of my collection there and have them ship it over with that stuff? Can they, or would they, charge me for something I've owned for years?

If I have a record that HAS (doesnt mean will again) sold for say $100 before, and I send it to myself, could I have to repay customs to get it!  Crazy deal...

...ive pretty much hijacked this from the original post I guess... though still pondering on the original customs issue...

  5. yea, it was late, I read and then wrote a lot of mixed bizness, especially where you quoted.... I think I comprehended that DHL used the wrong, higher rate, then I transferred that to customs charging based on that and went in the wrong direction.  Still, pretty crappy deal by DHL on this one.

but, I think it's weird that customs includes the shipping when calculating duties, especially since in this case DHL is a German company, but I get that I guess though I dont agree.

when I order something, on say the Amazon marketplace, I always check to see that with shipping it's under the 22 euro (or 25 or whatever it is) threshold to be under where customs starts charging. I've been pretty lucky for the most part, but I did get dinged bad once where with shipping the extra import fee was almost 2/3 of the cost of what I bought.  I think it should be based on the goods value...

as for the using of ebay to determine value of an item. I absolutely dont agree with that.  To much fluctuation.  Two people could fight something out to over $200, then when the next one comes up, the bidding pool is one seriously interested bidder less, and it goes for $30 - $50.  I've seen it happen. It shouldn't be too hard make the receiver track down the actual invoice, beyond that, I don't know, I am not gonna put a ton of energy into solving the problem, but I am pretty happy to complain and say I am sure a bidding site is not answer...

  6. i've always felt the whole customs thing was a bit shady... in this example, they were able to calculate the shipping rate much higher than what it actually cost in order to get a higher customs fee!? that does not seem right...

Could you have gotten DW to clarify the actually shipping charge since they somehow can't figure out what their own rate for that item actually is.

But then they want to charge you a fee to recalculate the custom charge to the correct amount!? Am I reading that right?! SHADY!

furthermore, I've always felt using Ebay to calculate value on an item is absolutely ridiculous! How could that even be legal? Ebay is not a retailer, and is in no way a reputable gauge of what something is worth! Seriously!

Now I think I finally know why there are those oddball 'buy it now' listings for common cd's priced at $100+ and other crap outrageously priced when there 20 identical items for a fraction! ITS CUSTOMS!! ;p

I would bet if they see a listing for Deathwish Record XX for $400, yet there are 10 other listings priced at a reasonable retail of around $15 - $20, the customs due is gonna be based off that $400 listing... even if they could look at the label, see the DW website, and find the ACTUAL price.  Shady....

  7. Their last album was Great! The vinyl pressing was shit! Horribly brickwalled, distorted, listener fatigue after a few songs... bad bad bad!

I will not be pre-ordering this until I hear some reviews!  Based on the last vinyl pressing: Beware!

That said, if there was a good sounding pressing of Megalithic Symphony, I'd buy it up in second...

  8. Out of the LPs that I own, this is how I would rank mine:

    1. ( )

    2. Takk

    3. Med Sud...

    4. Valtari

    5. Kveikur

    6. Heima

    7. Petta Er Island (Live 3xLP bootleg you can get for 20-30 bucks)

    8. Inni

    9. Agaetis Byrjun

    10. Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do

    11. Von

Sigur Ros is a top 5 band for me, so no matter what the rating of any of these, I really do enjoy and cherish them all in different ways.  This is a band that can do no wrong in my eyes.

Anyone have / hear the most recent bootleg?  The BBC live in 2009 I believe?  Wondering if it's worth adding to the collection!

    1. AB, Takk, Kveikur, ( ) <-changing with my moods...

    2. Heima (hvarf/heim)

    3. Med Sud...

    4. Petta Er Island

    5. Von

    6. Valtari

    7. Inni

    8. Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do

    9. BBC 2009 Live

Though Valtari is my least favorite studio album at the moment, I still quite like it, and think Varud (Varuo?) is one of their best songs ever....

Regarding, the Live at the BBC vinyl being last.... it's very nice looking, and sounds, ok, but to my ears it sounds very compressed and flat. Not great dynamic range.  The performance is good, and the sound is Ok in general.... just not exactly moving. (my review is the one on the discogs page saying about the same FYI).   I'm glad I have it, just as a huge fan, so I can recommend it for that reason at least...

I am not really fan of INNI either, I think the Petta boot has a much better feel to it.

  9. arent all mov releases at 33rpm?

also, it seems so sketchy these days regarding remix releases of old albums... between the mix being not just 'tweaked' but 'cranked up' and the quality control on some vinyl.... I think I would a take a mov release over most other options if the same album was available from them and another source.   I say that of course noting i only own about 5 mov releases at the moment, but once I fill out my want list it will be in the teens...in the meantime what I have from them says I'll continue to grab theirs over others...

  10. I wouldn't be surprised if its a "viral marketing hoax" to get stores to stock up to bolster earnings before the end of the business year... I mean look at how many people are freaking in this thread... store owners are probably following suit.

    this...

i was going to post a similar idea. send this out to some of the major vinyl enthusiast forums/news sites, or hell, simply let reddit disseminate it more effectively still...  sit back and watch the shit-storm hype up thevinyls, while simultaneously watching sales pick up from those that believe it, as well as those that think 'well, this can't be true... but just in case, let me stock up on_____'  cause, c'mon really, those increases are completely unreasonable.

on side note, why is Guerolito still so readily available, while Guero is not? annoying....

  11. this going to be one of those "limited" editions... like the Beach Boys Smile on Sea of Tunes and some of the more recent 'Limited Reissues', like the Eels and Trainspotting that have been popping from Europe... as in, limited to how many we can sell, which is, granted still pretty limited, but you can't believe any of the numbers attached to them...

  12. so they have that track 'no time for caution' marked as track 22... but if it was music for the docking scene, shouldn't it be somewhere between track 14_Detach and track 15_S.T.A.Y.  which incidentally is where I placed the Spinning Doc track from soundcloud... also, no time for caution sounds a lot like spinning doc in parts, just with the melody is softer in the mix...

  13. all this talk, got me to preorder that deluxe set, which looks awesome!!

Ihave already listened through the score on both that app, and downloaded files that came instantly.  Incredible.  Really,

although I will say, i am glad the files from the app were free, because using the same headphones at the same level with both them and download, I am not hearing enough of an improvement that would have justified paying for the music again.  Plus the app had a tendency to stutter on some of the track changes, and stopped all together twice towards the end.  The introduction is cool though...

    but music-wise.  Unbeatable!
