Stoked I just snagged two tickets to the sold out Wakefield gig. Can't wait to finally hear the older tracks live. Plus I'll save a buck and grab the LP in person. Shipping is killing me these days, barely ordered anything online in almost a year.
-
Does anyone know if this will be in a box set similar to Have One On Me. $28 on Drag City and $34 on amazon seems pretty high for a 2xLP on an independent label.

DC always goes high end with JN's releases. Thicker card stock, lots of prints and inserts, and (for those who pre-odered) a pretty swell poster. No box, as this is only a 2LP. Though that Amazon price is ridiculous. It's totally fucking worth $30.
Also, it has leaked.

As if these are in USD? Way too pricey.
-
What a dink. But I still love his early records.

Whoa, huge thanks for this, was not aware either. Gonna get my local to bring it in for sure.

Saw them in Montreal Saturday and the shirts were sold out by the time I got through the door. Lineups were about an hour wait getting in so they all sold in that time. Apparently the merch guy only had the NA tour shirt available that night, and the poster. Didn't really matter since I wanted the death classic tee, but damn why they so tight on shirts? I've been avoiding ordering one online since shipping is so stupid to Canada these days.
Fucking gnarly show though, good god.

Man I got so pumped when I read this thread title but I noticed when you click on the link that although the Amazon listing does say "2LP vinyl" in the title, the format says its CD. Sadly the product details also reads "audio CD".
I'm guessing this is just a mistake on Amazon's part and that they will have a vinyl page up eventually, but the link looks to me like the wrong format. My guess is the "number of discs" section reading two is due to the whole deluxe reissue thing.

Thank you for making me aware that they're touring. Had no idea they were playing here at the end of June! Woohoo!
No problem. Seems like Ottawa and MTL's Jazz fests often share the same lineup sine they're a week apart.

Can't be more excited for this.
Catching them live later this month, hoping to grab the LP there since its sitting awfully high at $31 plus shipping on amazon.ca
-
Has anyone got the mail order one in yet?
Still waiting. Figured there would have been shipping confirmation. Guess it's en route.
-
I caved and grabbed it locally since ordering online would put it close to $40 with shipping to Canada. The shops said it's the distributor's cost pushing it up. All four stores I've visited have the exact same price cause they know its gouging. Its gotta be a Canadian shipping cost issue, sooooo so so so bogus.
We have seriously lost control of our postal system in Canada and our current joke of a Government is encouraging their cutbacks. And mark-up in Canada is mostly based on shipping costs. These days I'm seriously a 1:10 ratio now for online:in store.

Sweet Jesus, I just saw this regular 2LP at my local for $36.99. Retail should be $25ish, am I wrong?
Is there another NA edition I'm not aware of besides the deluxe?

Plain Recordings packaging is inconsistent. Their audio sourcing is also inconsistent. Personally I have these from Plain:
Mr Bungle - Mr Bungle
Mr Bungle - California
Elliott Smith - XO
Elliott Smith - Figure 8
Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine
The Fiona Apple & Elliott Smith albums are fantastic. Great audio quality and equally nice but not outstanding packaging.
The Mr. Bungle releases-- Questionable artwork and audio on both (undersized, possibly not-appropriate mastering for vinyl). The self-titled disc shoves over 70 minutes of audio on a single LP (the same was done for Disco Volante by Bungle too).
the only plain albums i have are:
mr bungle - disco volante
elliott smith - figure 8
my only complaint is that the artwork doesn't cover the entire package.
it's always cropped out with a border, as if they didn't get the proper art source, and didn't want it to look blown out and pixelated.
as far as sound quality goes, both sound great in my opinion, but with nothing else to compare them to, who knows.
After years of hemming and hawing I finally broke down picked up Figure 8 (the only Elliott Smith record that took me so many years to get into), the 2010 Plain repress...and MY GOD is it awful. Worse than cd/mp3 transfer, three of the four sides are distorted and buzzing, and the packaging is shite. Definitely has that cropped border issue, and an ultra weak sleeve. It's like an MOV release, except they acrtuaklly use the Masters (most of the time). And all in it was $38 from Amazon after they lied about free shipping. What burns is I almost bought it in 2010 for $22 from a local and I was all "hmm, it's my least favorite album of his...". Dumbass.
I can't believe some of the Plain pressings of Figure 8 are mint, I guess I got bummed on this one.
Also, this just in: I'm officially done ordering from Amazon.

Holy shit this debacle is actually getting worse? How is there so little QC at Sub Pop? Super excited to see how my replacements turned out.

Boot?
This is my guess. It's label is London (though it's the same label as the original release) and catalog numbers vary between the two links provided.
I'll be waiting for the ABKCO version.
-
alllllllll over this
-
very much digging this
-
Thank you for this. Says back-ordered, I wonder if it'll just be the same version that goes out to indie's in a few weeks. My locals have been waiting over a month for the next press. And I'm guessing this isn't the orange version since they were limited to the first press?
-
If it's coming from the U.S., that is essentially how much it costs, it sucks.
Yeah the rates are getting out of control. But some labels are taking a bit of a hit for us it seems. Just grabbed the new Jenny Hval $10 shipping. Best rates I've seen from the US in a looooong time.
-
$16 shipping to Ontario. This is getting out of control.

I've always held out hope for Crank from the Barstool Prophets. And definitely would like the first two records from each Tea Party, I Mother Earth and Matt Good.
But yeah, I've heard the Sloan reissue rumors for over two years now and still nothing.
It's a shame cause most of these artists were coming out when vinyl was so difficult to sell, they just wouldn't press smaller Canadian acts.

That opening chord of Iron Moon gives me goosebumps.

Curious why you thought this was a mediocre release for the reissue? Did you want improved artwork? (The original art was nominated for a Grammy). A different color? I think 180gm black should sound great. I guess a disc of extra tracks would be nice, but barring that, I'm curious what would improve this- not trying to be snarky, just interested-
The art is perfect, the music and packaging are unique and unprecedented. The 10th anniversary is coming in two years and Justin and Danny (and Brent) know how important this album was to their trajectory as art-rock stalwarts, why not keep the rights for a massive re-release that they curate themselves (beyond the obvious hurdles that would entail)? This album meant so much to me when it came out, it feels like VMP is just cashing in with little to add to its preceding press besides hipster alignment and an excellent marketing opportunity. The VMP issue is again a really nice package, but I can't help but think this album is worth more than a straight forward reissue.
The band is so creative and I felt this release should have reflected that. But I digress, mediocre was a bit harsh.
And I'm glad a new generation of fans get a chance to own it at last.

Snagged a mint used copy of Caroline Rose's Superstar pink variant for $22 CA yesterday. Glad it's not going to VMP.
