  1. Managed to score a swirl variant.

I had the alarm set on my phone but was actually in my friend's car on the way home from glazing hand-thrown bowls for our Empty Bowls (for hunger awareness) event and I also got an e-mail about getting an internship over the summer around the same time, so, combined with the PayPal issues, it was a clusterfuck.

I ended up getting home around 4:40 and I immediately got on my laptop and ordered one and it went through.

Pretty excited for this; I wasn't really old enough to experience the ska craze first hand when it happened (I was like an infant...) but it reminds me of middle school because that was when I first started listening to RBF, even though it was kind of old by then.

  2. I really dig the packaging on the fun. 10" and love the fact that the vinyl matches my copy of Aim and Ignite.

I also really enjoy the Frightened Rabbit Live EP, but I wish there was more.

I kind of found some of the remixes on the Broken Bells 12" a bit lackluster, and both of the splits I got have b-sides that are lacking a bit:
The SDRE song is much better than the CS song, and the American Authors cover of "In A Big Country" is A LOT better than The Mowgli's cover of "You Make My Dreams Come True."

But I don't regret picking anything up that I did.

  3. I think I made out pretty well at RSD this year. My store didn't have any copies of the Scott Pilgrim or the Blood Dragon soundtracks or the Cake box, so that was kind of a bummer, but I'm otherwise happy with what I got. I missed the REM set by only getting there 15 minutes early (the guy who got it was there a few hours early.)

    Ended up with:

    • fun. - Point and Light
    • Broken Bells - Holding on for Life
    • Frightened Rabbit - Live From Criminal Records
    • The Space Project LP (didn't see any 7" sets.)
    • SDRE/Circa Survive split 7"
    • The Last Internationale - Life, Liberty, and The Pursuit of Indian Blood 7"
    • Sam Means - Blue Jeans 7"
    • American Authors/The Mowgli's split 7"

Cost me about $126 before the gift certificate I had, which took it down to around 100.

  4. I've been attending honor music festivals since the tenth grade and yesterday was my last one forever. It was the Pennsylvania All-State Concert Band and it was definitely a bittersweet moment. The friends I made throughout my three years could not be matched anywhere and it was phenomenal to play such fantastic music with fellow talented musicians and they were my absolute favorite part of high school.

Yeah, that shit sounded cheesy as fuck. In reality, I loved PMEA and NAfME festivals-I made some great friends from all over the country and loved playing the music.

EXCEPT AT THIS YEAR'S ALL-STATE BECAUSE I WAS ON BASS TROMBONE AND I DESPISE THE BASS TROMBONE WITH THE BURNING PASSION OF A MILLION SUNS. I wish PMEA would have Bass Trombone be a separate instrument, because it takes a different set of skills to play it. It sucks to go from playing Lead Trombone at regionals to Bass Bone at states--the parts are assigned to specific regions randomly and has nothing to do with the scores or parts players were on previously, which is shitty.

  5. As more and more releases get added to the list, it's more money I'll have to spend. Goddamn.

The Fun. (especially becuase it's demos from Aim and Ignite) and Frightened Rabbit EPs are definitely added to my want list, and maybe the MGMT pressings, if I can afford them...

Damn. There are only 300 copies of the Blood Dragon soundtrack. I highly doubt my store will get any.
